“Ouch,” I grab my chest dramatically. “I see where your loyalties lay.”

She purses her lips, but I can tell it’s to keep herself from laughing and encouraging me. “Yup, to myself. Good luck not getting beaten up or killed,” she says as she lets the door go and walks towards the one that leads to the stairs to her apartment. Only Edge would make sure that there are three locked doors before gaining entrance to the apartment.

“Damn, and here I thought we were friends,” I say while trying to look pitiful. A look I’ve actually mastered over the years to get my ass out of trouble.

She shrugs,“You’re my boss, nothing more.”

“For now,” I say before walking through the door and smirking at the shocked look on her face.

I’m still smiling as I walk into Edge’s office and take a seat at the desk. He looks over at me and raises an eyebrow, before sighing. “What have you done now?” he questions.

“Ya know,” I drawl, “as your VP, those questions are highly insulting.”

“I’d give a shit if you actually stood on ceremony and threw your power around to anyone but the prospects. But since you don’t, I’m goin’ to say whatever I like.”

“So, you’re saying that I should be more of a power-hungry asshole.” I rub my chin thoughtfully. “I could probably get on board with that.”

“You wouldn’t even last two days,” he saysdryly. “You’re a jackass but never an asshole.”

“Thanks,” I frown, “I think.”

“No problem.” He nods his head. “Now why the hell are you bothering me?”

“I really thought that Kea would’ve made you less grumpy by now,” I frown.

“I’m not grumpy.”

“Right,” I cough. “You’re the epitome of light and joy.”

“You’re starting to piss me off.”

“Shocker,” I interrupt, though he ignores my comment.

“I have shit that I need to get done before I go home,” he sighs loudly and sits back in his chair. “But I’m glad you’re here.”

“Kea do somethin’ to piss you off and you want help gettin’ back at her?” I question eagerly while rubbing my hands together.

“One of these days, she’s goin’ to lose her shit on you and you don’t have anyone to blame but yourself.”

“I like to live dangerously,” I shrug, unbothered by his words. She’s like a sister to me. We both know she won’t do any permanent damage. “What’s up?” I give him a chin lift to let him know that I’m listening.

“It’s about Bri,” he states, his tone and face giving nothing away.

“What about her?” I go for causal as I lift my right leg and hang my ankle over my knee. I can pretend that the woman is just my employee. Easy.

“You mentioned how she freaks out when having to go into the actual garage and it got me thinkin’,” he says, his dark eyes watching me intently.

I nod my head slowly. “Yeah, she probably had some sort of an accident or somethin’ and it triggers the memory or some shit. That’s why we try to make sure that she doesn’t have to go in there.”

“What if it wasn’t an accident?”

My eyes narrow. “What are you sayin’?” I ask through gritted teeth. Anyone would be upset that their employee was hurt in some way. I’m a really good boss.

“Marrow and I were talkin’.”

“Don’t you two have anything better to do than sit on your asses gossiping?” I ask.

I can see his cheek twitch, making me slightly happy. “Not when our women are having a girls day or some shit with your step-mother.”
