“Yeah, well, lucky for you, Jax and I are talented mother-fuckers. We can get you in a pimped out ride in no time.”

The girl sits to the side, her history textbook open on her lap as she flips through the pages and makes notes.

“She knows she doesn’t have to hang around, right,” I whisper over to Jax.

“She’s sticking around to look at your ass, and we both know it.” He quips.

Okay, maybe the girl has a crush. I won’t pretend that it’s slipped my attention. She’s been flirting with me since the first day we met her, despite her beingalmostten years younger than me. At the time, Jax had harped on about college girls, but the closer Jenny gets to that age, the less he seems inclined to go on about it.

“Let’s just hope Bri doesn’t come out here any time today.”

I’d told her that lunch would be later. Dani is outlooking for fixtures or back drops for her video channel.Jenny won’t be out of school for a few more hours. Meaning that while Jax and I

are busy fixing up this ride, she’s going to be alone, essentially. She’d promised me that she didn’t mind.

“All the better to get my work done,”she assuredme.

But now that the girl is here, I’m finding myself somewhat desperately hopeful that she won’t meet Chloe. I don’t want there to be any misunderstandings.

“Right. Well, she doesn’t come into the shop, does she? So, we’reokay.”

That’s true. Even after all this time, she’s still not stepped foot into the shop floor. Igaven’tasked for specifics, but she’s dropped some hints along the way that suggest something awful happened on the shop floor of her Ex’s garage.

In fact, thereare so many little things she’s said and done that suggest there are so many different things he’s taken over every possible aspect of her life with somekindof fear.

“Hey, you guys nearly done?”

Chloe has abandoned her books and is now leaning up against the side of the car, her cardigan suspiciously missing, and her chest pressed up tight in the shirt she’s wearing. Jax meets my eyes as we fitthe custom leather seats.

“Oh. Not really. We did mention that it would be a few hours, right? We’re gonna work right through until about three or four.”

“Yeah, you did mention that,” she shrugs. “Do you need help with anything?”

She leans into the car under the guise of checking the seams of the seat covers, her breasts almost falling from the bra she’s wearing. I’ve always wondered how girls kept them inside whentheirshirts are barely covering the nipples.

“No. Don’t worry. You can go back to studying,” I assure her.

“Or better yet, head home. We’ll call you when we’re done.” Jax adds inforcefully.

“Oh, no. That’s fine. I’m happy to keep you guys company.” Chloe’s voice is sguary sweet, making me want to vomit.

The look Jaxthrows at hersuggests that he’d love to tell her just how little he’d like to keep her company, but he wisely says nothing. Once theleatheris fitted and we’ve fixed it to the back of the seats, we start to tear out the ceiling. We’re going to add in a light strip around the edge and a fold down TV with a DVD player. She wants the entire thing pimped out for camping adventures. If I wasn’t so set on my bike, I’d love to have something like this.

“So, how’s your love life, Jax?” Chloe questions, obviously not picking up on the fact that she isn’t wanted here.

My little brother is a little shit. He smirks at me andstates how he’s recently met the woman of his dreams. This asshole.

“She’s great. Real firecracker. You should ask Xander about her sister, though. They’ve been together for awhile now.”

That one sentence changes everything. Chloe’s entire body stiffens and her sly smile drops into a scowl.

“I’m sorry, what? You’re not like‘with her’are you?” she asks, her mouth twisted as though she’s never heard of anything quite so vile as me looking at another woman. “Who is she, anyway? You’ve never talked about anyone before. I heard you got a new manager, is it her?”

Underneath that barrage of questions, Jax is laughing. He actually turns his back to me so that I can’t see how his shoulders shake with his mirth.

“You’ve got to be kidding me,” I mutter under my breath.

I steel myself for the litany of verbal abuse this twenty-one year old stalker is about to throw at me, and I smile.
