My dad takes my arm, and we make our way over to the closed doors at the end of the aisle. Lakes’ forwards Sully and Conway open the doors as the processional plays. Dad gives me one last look.

“Ready?”

I nod and tuck into his elbow. Here we go.

As we take our first steps, Lonan turns around, and the look on his face when he sees me melts me to pieces. His tongue darts out to wet his lips before they curve into a smile that can’t be contained, the one that slays me. I know mine mirrors his. I understand the happiness my dad spoke of just moments before. I can’t imagine a joy greater than this one. It’s more than anything I’ve ever felt before.

My feet continue to carry me forward, but time seems to stand still in this surreal moment of bliss. My dad lets go of me to embrace Lonan and give him a squeeze. He must say something to him because Lonan mutters a “Yes, sir”in return.I hand my bouquet to Micky, and she dabs her eye with a tissue. It’s rare for her to get emotional, so I cherish the moment. My dad turns back to me and wraps me in one more hug.

“Go get ’em, kiddo. I love you.”

“Love you too, Dad.”

His eyes twinkle when he pulls back. Jack gives me a nod and smiles like he’s proud of me. When I look at my mom, she’s got her head tilted to the side and her eyes shine with tenderness. This is love. It’s real. The good stuff.

I take my place across from Lonan. He’s so handsome. That’s one hell of a suit. He takes my hand and yanks me closer. There are some chuckles from the guests, but right now, it feels like he and I are the only two people in this space. The officiant speaks, but I’m lost in Lonan’s eyes and the way he’s looking at me.

We repeat our vows back to the officiant, and when my husband slides the ring back on my finger, and I slide one on his, we say our promises to each other.

As the final words are spoken, Lonan pulls me close, and his hand cradles the back of my head as our lips connect. It’s intoxicating.

“I will love you forever,” he says against my lips.

“Forever,” I promise.

No matter the circumstances, we would always find each other. This love existed before I forgot, before I remembered, and before we came to be what we are in this moment.

EPILOGUE II

THE MALDIVES

Waiting is torture. I’m naked, but the sunset casts a warm glow in our water villa. I’ve been instructed to get on all fours and wait on the bed for him to come back from his swim. The sheets below my fingers are plush and downy. I think about the last time he took me from behind, and my arousal coats my thighs. Then I hear it. The steady, solid footfalls get louder as he approaches. I swallow, suddenly more scared than excited.

My back is facing the door, but when the knob turns, my heart races. My awareness of my exposure and self-consciousness kicks into overdrive. This is not the most flattering pose he requested. What the fuck was he thinking making me pose like this?

The door opens. Silence.

I’m naked on top of our bed, on my hands and knees. Thankfully the lights are low, which will paint me to be more flattering than I probably am. Why is he so quiet? Is he just staring at me? I’m not supposed to turn around.

His fingers start at the back of my thigh, then run along my ass and up my spine, sending a shiver up to my neck. Finally, he walks around the bed and stands in front of me, tilting up my chin.

“Were you a good girl today?”

Oh fuck.I try not to show my excitement.

“Yes.”

“I’d say you were a very good girl. Tonight, you and I are the only things that exist. Spread your knees.”

I obey.

He walks around to the other side of the bed, and his wet suit slaps onto the floor. Feather touches kiss the back of my legs and thighs. The bed dips and my breath quickens.

“I love seeing you on all fours for me. You’re so beautiful, baby.”

Exhale. I feel safe again.

Then his warm mouth closes on my ass cheek and he bites. He literally bites me. I yelp, and he licks the same spot, soothing the sting.
