Micky: Now in walks you, trying to tie her down with a ring, telling her she doesn’t need a job, a place to live, a car. You’re going to handle everything. Sound familiar?

Micky: Let’s paint another picture. She and her family have been spending the last 4 days trying to come up with a loophole that allows Birdie to stay.

Micky: 4 days toiling day and night to find the perfect solution, legalities be damned.

Micky: Now in swoops you—the person she loves—and he’s got a solution. If she marries him, it’s the perfect loophole. How romantic. ??

Micky: I mean, you basically sprung an arranged marriage on her. What the fuck were you guys thinking? Did no one see this backfiring?

Holy shit.I should have seen this coming. Bridget is still wrong on her assumptions, but I’m starting to understand why she said no.

Me: Shit.

Micky: Yeah.

Micky: She’s a huge pain in the ass when it comes to affection. I’m her best friend so I understand your frustration all too well. She’s infuriating.

Micky: But that anger should be directed toward Julianne. That woman gaslit her for 20 years, convincing her that she was unlovable. It fucked her up.

Micky: Thank Christ she’s FINALLY starting therapy.

Micky: Anyway, she needs to know you would still marry her as Birdie Hayes and not Elizabeth Fournier.

“I’ve been trying!” I shout into the empty room. I don’t know how I could have made it more clear.

Micky: It’s obvious you love her. You’ve showed her a million times. Now that she doesn’t have to deal with loopholes and she starts working on herself, she’s going to come around.

Micky: Just don’t give up on her. Give her some space and let her figure out her shit. I know you care about her, but she needs to be cared for a little differently. She’s special.

I know how special she is. Taking a break from her will not come easily. Especially when we’ve been living together for weeks. But I’ll play the long game if that’s what she needs.

Me: How is she?

I miss her so much. We’ve spent weeks apart before, but these have been the hardest days ever because there’s no guarantee we’ll ever be what we were.

Micky: Pollyanna? Oh, she’s fucking fantastic.

Micky: She’s just as messed up as you are

Me: I can’t believe I didn’t see how stupid this was.

Micky: Don’t beat yourself up. You meant well. I’m coming in May and I’ll help point her in the right direction.

Me: Oh yeah? Going to spend longer than a weekend this time?

Micky: Actually, I’m moving there. Well, if I can get an apartment that is... so far it’s not looking great. But, I miss my girl and I can’t go back to Seattle.

Micky: Besides, the market is perfect for the bar I want to open.

Me: No shit? That’s awesome.

Me: Hey, I’ll get you that apartment if you help me get Birdie?

Micky: Granite countertops sound lovely! Thank you!

Me: Done.

Micky: Don’t worry man. She’ll come around. Don’t forget, she loves you too.
