“I love you.” I turn around in his arms and press my lips to his.

Roaming hands find my back pockets, and he lifts me by my ass so I can wrap my legs around him.

“Let’s go do our own exploring. I want to fuck you on Richard Nixon’s face.”

“No!” I giggle. “Not until we get this place cleaned up... and maybe get our tetanus shots up to date.”

“That’s valid. I still can’t believe I love you enough to buy you this dump.”

“Just you wait, this will be the most sensational dump you’ve ever seen.”

“Please be talking about the bar.”

Laughing, I give him a playful nudge on his shoulder.

Birdie comes around the corner looking upbeat. “Ovens look to be in pretty good condition. Probably won’t need to replace them for at least another five years.” It’s nice to have a legit chef take a look at the equipment for me. “I got some shots of the kitchen, but let’s get a few pictures out here with you in them. This is a big day for you, it needs to be captured.”

“Go stand by the archway over there.” I go over and we take a couple selfies with all four of us. “Okay, now just you.”

Rhys must be bored out of his mind. He’s being a good sport, standing off to the side, waiting patiently, and occasionally flashing that handsome smile at me.

“Rhys, get over here, you need to be in these too. We’re a partnership. You’re my angel investor.”

He walks over and stands behind me in the photo.

“Great, these look excellent. Stay like that, I’m going to change angles.”

“I think we have enough, Birdie.”

“One more. Okay, turn toward me, angle your head down just a little bit.”

“Okay, last one. The guys are probably hungry.” They’re always hungry. When my feet pivot, I do a double take and Rhys is down on one knee.

He’s not...?

Oh my God. Is this happening?

“What are you doing?” My hands start to shake. “Is this the thing? This is the thing, right? The thing where people ask other people to marry them?”

He ignores my question and beams at me. “Freya Girl...”

“Fuck! Are you sure?!” I blurt out.

He laughs. “I haven’t even asked you anything.”

I’m so flustered.

He pulls a ring box, and that’s when the tears fall. It’s his mother’s ring. It’s beautiful. I’m speechless.

“I’m convinced the only reason this was found is because it was meant to live on your finger,” he says, removing it from the ring box.

I choke back a sob and smile.

“Before I ever saw your face, I knew we had something. There was a spark from the beginning. I couldn’t stay away from you, no one has ever held my fascination like you do. I needed more. And I’m so glad I did. You entered my life like a fireball. The more I tried to resist it, the bigger it grew. Until one night you were standing in front of me, and when I looked in your eyes, I knew instantly you were everything I needed. You consumed me. Our love is a fire, Freya. It’s strong and wild, and knows no bounds.”

I laugh, my eyes swimming with tears, not caring there’s an audience behind us.

“I promise to fuel it, be careful with it, and never let it burn out. You love me in the rarest of ways, and I want to love you for the rest of my life.” His glassy, emotion-filled eyes make me melt. “Will you marry me?”
