‘I’m happy for you, Jnr.’

‘Again, fuck off.’ I looked at him and laughed at the moniker only he had the impertinence and balls to call me.

‘No, really… I’m happy Serafina is home. She calms you and makes you more human somehow.’ He clapped his hand on my shoulder as he spoke.

I twisted my body to get a better look at him and found a smile on his face that stretched from ear to ear. It hadn’t been easy getting used to sibling banter and even now I found it difficult sometimes to discern if my siblings were joking or not, but his face held a sincerity about it.

‘It’s true, she does,’ I agreed.

I looked over at her again.

Feeling my gaze hot on her skin, had her turning to face me. Inadvertently, she bit into her bottom lip and my cock swelled in reaction.

I picked up my now refilled glass and lifted it to her in a “touche” response.

Each time we’d passed each other this afternoon, I’d made sure to brush against her or to touch some part of the bare skin she had on show today, just gently with the very end of my finger. I’d hook her hair back behind her ear and whisper how much I wanted her, or how beautiful she looked, making sure my breath caressed over the sensitive skin on her ear or neck. Every time she’d come nearer and tried to wrap her arm around my waist, I’d given her a smile, or placed a kiss to her cheek and moved away.

Two hours later, after our visitors had drunk and eaten their fill, she was looking more beautiful than I’d ever seen her. Her skin was flushed, and it was my sheer pleasure to know I’d taken her to such a level that she was in a constant state of high alert that I loved so much. Her much-needed orgasm was only a few seconds of my full attention away. Her eyes were finding me at every given opportunity, and just the once she’d attempted to coerce me indoors after explaining she needed my help.

When I’d turned her down and raised my eyebrow at her, she’d finally understood just what game I was playing.

I was the cat and she was, as she’d always been, my little bird.

The only blot on my otherwise surprisingly happy landscape, was Serafina’s brother Dante. For the past few hours, he’d been showering my baby sister Gi with attention. At first, I’d watched on amused. Gi, only having brothers, was well used to being able to hold her ground. She was intelligent, more than able to hold her own in any decent conversation and had a quick and sharp tongue when required. Their first couple of encounters today had resulted in Dante being left standing on his own with a wry smile attached to his face as she’d given him the brush off. As the hours had passed, things seemed to be changing between them. They were standing closer, and he was taking every opportunity to touch her. Whether it be her fingers on the glass of wine he had brought to her, or to catch her elbow when a small child had run headlong into her.

The looks she was now giving him let me know that she liked him, a lot.

I, on the other hand, was hating their every encounter.

The sound of a glass being tapped with cutlery caught my attention and standing up from my seat, I found Alessandro Giordano trying to get everyone’s attention.

‘Thank you, everyone,’ he spoke, as the party quietened in response. ‘With our hosts permission, I’d like to offer a few words?’ As he spoke, his eyes found mine and nodding once I gave him the permission he needed to carry on.

‘I, my wife and my family are very happy to be here today.’ He raised his glass to me, and I reciprocated. Everyone here understood exactly what he was saying. He was happy to be accepted fully back into the fold of the “family”. I, on the other hand, was still unsure about having him in my home, but I was aware of how much it meant to the woman I loved.

‘Family gives so much. It gives you pain and pleasure, heartbreak and happiness. Today, as we’re gathered here with you all, I want to toast the happiest of days. Having our two daughters back home where they belong… To Serafina and Mia.’ He raised his glass and everyone around us responded, ‘Serafina and Mia.’

I found Serafina across the terrace, as she went over to bestow a kiss on each of her parents’ cheeks. When she turned towards me, I understood I couldn’t keep away from her any longer and crossed the terrace to stand by her side.

‘To my wife,’ I toasted loudly, as I placed my arm around her waist and pulled her up tight against me.

Again, the crowd returned the toast.

‘How much longer?’ Serafina questioned as the crowd around us went back to their conversations.

‘For what, little bird?’

‘Until they leave.’ She smiled up at me.

‘Now who’s anti-social?’ I laughed. ‘Not much longer, hopefully.’

Pulling myself up as tall as I could, I looked over the heads of the men in the way of my view, to see Dante using a hanky to remove a stain the exact same hue as Gi’s lipstick from his top lip and offering me a knowing grin, he deliberately showed me the evidence before he folded up the piece of material.

Bastard.

‘Silence, please, for Don De Luca.’ Ricco’s voice sounded out strongly and the terrace full of people reacted.

‘Sit,’ Ricco demanded.
