Ginny turns her attention to Kaan who drops down onto a seat beside me, flopping his arm over my shoulder somewhat possessively. “Kaan, have you got anything special planned while you’re here?”

“I do, actually.”

“Do you care to fill us in?”

I lean back into the crook of his arm. “Yes, please do, Kaan.”

“You ladies may not be aware of this, but I very recently declared my feelings to Nutmeg here.” He squeezes me tightly causing me to scowl and Leyla to squeal. “And she told me tonight that she has finally decided to give us a chance.”

Ginny, Olive and Leyla all lean forward in their seats. “Really?”

I wink at Ginny. “I recently got some great advice from someone.”

“That person sounds like a genius.”

“Clearly.”

“Nutmeg didn’t like me very much when we first met.”

“I don’t think much of you right now, if we’re being truthful.”

Kaan continues, as if he can’t hear my mocking tone. “And tonight, I caught her making a very succinct list of reasons why she and I can’t be together.”

“I was there.”

“Tell us the list.”

“I’m famous.”

I grin as I throw my arms up in the air. “Youarefamous.”

“I’m arrogant.”

“Are you telling us you’renotarrogant?”

“And I’m a bit of a hound dog.”

My grin gets impossibly bigger. “Woof!”

“This has all the makings of my favourite rom-com’s.” Ginny’s love of romance films is well-known. “I’m super excited to see where this goes.”

“Hold on a minute, you guys do realise that this is Kaan we’re talking about, not John Smith from down at the local in Twickenham.”

Ignoring me entirely Ginny outlines the rom-com criteria to the group. “The heroine and the hero are thrown together in some ridiculous way.”

Kaan chuckles. “Check.”

“They argue constantly but no one can deny the sexual tension between them.”

This time Olive and Leyla chime in. “Check!”

“They are torn apart and all looks lost.”

“I’m looking forward to that part,” I mutter to no one in particular.

“But then the hero comes and makes a grand gesture…,” Ginny nods at Kaan encouragingly. “… wins the heroine’s heart, and they live happily ever after.”

“Jesus, Mary and Joseph!”
