“You don’t have to thank me, Nutmeg. I’d do just about anything to keep you safe.”

My cheeks flush at his words but I didn’t get the chance to say anything else as Kaan is being enveloped in a hug by the woman. “You’re here at last!”

This must be Kaan’s twin sister, Roxe.

I’m struck by the subtle differences that set the siblings apart. Kaan’s face is angular and chiselled, while his sister’s features are softer, giving her an almost ethereal quality. Her eyes, the exact same shade of bronze as his, lock onto mine, and she grins over his shoulder, “I didn’t think you were going to make it because of the storm.”

“Nutmeg here almost didn’t.” Kaan grabs me and pulls me into the embrace, soaking and all. “I was almost certain she was going to end up at the bottom of the sea.”

“Like thatsimit.” I mutter in defeat from the centre of my Korkmaz Family Sandwich.

Roxe steps back and studies me carefully, her brow furrowing with concern. “You don’t look so good, and why are you so wet?”

I chuckle, slightly embarrassed. “I wanted to swim over.”

Kaan joins in with a playful jab. “And green’s really not her colour.”

Roxe shoots her twin a sharp look before turning back to me. “You were sick?”

I nod morosely.

Without warning, Roxe punches her brother’s arm. “Don’t be such an insensitive prick.”

Kaan rubs his arm theatrically, causing me to laugh. “I think you and I are going to be great friends, Roxe.”

“I know we will,” she replies, putting the umbrella over my head and leaving Kaan to get wet as the rain pours down. “Now let’s get out of this rain. It’s only a short walk to the house but with the weather I thought it would be better to get Zeki to pick you up.”

Kaan’s eyebrows lift slightly as his eyes flick toward a great hunk of man shuffling nervously beside a tiny, white electric golf cart. “The handyman?”

Roxe laughs lightly. “Don’t be like that, baby brother. Yes, Zeki’s the handyman. Right now, he’s our driver as well. He can also cook a pretty good barbeque!”

With my nausea safely behind me and knowing I have an ally in Roxe, I am enjoying the banter between the two siblings. “He sounds like a man of many talents.”

“He’s very, veryhandy!” Roxe winks at me. “If you know what I mean.”

Yeah, she’s definitely shagging the handyman.

“I think I’ve cracked the code.”

I climb into the cart beside Roxe, trying to leave as much space as I can so I don’t drip all over her dry clothes. She doesn’t even notice and smiles warmly as Zeki starts the engine. “I’m just glad you’re safe. Kaan can be a bit reckless at times.”

I nod in agreement. “That’s an understatement.”

“Don’t worry, I’ll make sure he doesn’t drag you into any more dangerous situations.”

“I’d really appreciate that.”

“You know, my little brother has never introduced me to any of his girlfriends before.”

I shake my head quickly then moan as the nausea tries to resurface as the little electric taxi kicks into gear. “This thing between us is all very new.”

“We talk, Meg. Every day. He’s told me all about you.”

My heart skips a beat at Roxe’s words. “He talks to you about me?”

“All the time,” she says with a grin. “He’s really into you, you know. I’ve never seen him this happy before… ever!”

“I’m happy too,” I admit surprising myself with my honesty.
