“Usually I can handle it, but we have some things to discuss. Noon, be ready for our lunch date.”

“Not-.”

I hang the phone up before she can finish her thought, loving that I’m riling her up three floors down. Wonder what she’s telling her friend?

My hand is hovering above the phone, fully prepared to call and let her know that it was a mistake. No hard feelings and all that. But, I retract my outstretched hand quickly when I think about all the men wanting her in the way I do.

Time to show her what I’m all about.

Chapter7

Ava

If this conceited asshole thinks that he can control me, he’s got another thing coming. As soon as I slam the phone back on the hook, Millie rolls from her station to lean into mine with an eyebrow raised in question.

“Girl, you good?”

I clench my fists and push my chair away from the desk, grab my purse from the floor, and glare at the phone as if it’s the culprit of my anger.

Millie throws her hands up in the air, clearly sensing my growing temper, and pushes her chair back into her own cubicle. Good, nobody else needs to be witness to the crime I’m about to commit.

With my head held high and glare fixed perfectly on my face, I march through the elevator and press number thirteen. The other employees must sense my mood because they steer clear of me as they enter the car with me, scurrying away as if the place is on fire. Might as well be with how angry I am right now.

The nerve of this attractive asshole.

I’ll show his fine ass who’s in charge, and it’s definitelynothim. When I reach Ryan’s floor, I ignore everyone that turns to stare at me and makes a beeline for his office door. His secretary, Selena, who talks to me often during lunches when she gets a break, immediately picks up the phone as I walk past her desk.

Without bothering to knock, I burst through his office. He doesn’t look remotely shocked, only stares at me with a confident smirk on his face. The smirk alone should be illegal, definitely a crime for someone to be as attractive as he is. As if expecting me, he leans back in his seat with his arms crossed behind his head and nods toward one of the chairs in front of his desk.

I can’t help but track the muscles of his arms as he flexes them, which only earns me an even bigger smirk, and I curse myself for losing my cool at his charms.

“What can I do for you, Ava?” he asks in a professional voice, as if he has no clue what the hell I’m doing up here, and that only angers me more. Instead of sitting, I strut my ass right up to his desk and lean over it, sticking a finger out at his chest, and narrow my eyes at him.

Hiseyes look different in the light of day. They’re even more beautiful than they were at the party. His jaw is chiseled to perfection and it looks as if he’s missed a day or two of shaving. His hair completes his sexily disheveled look with his long hair curling at the ends.

Dammit, focus, Ava.His eyes hold some amusement and I smile seductively at him.

If he wants to play this type of game, he better hope that he can handle it if I play it too. I might be a virgin, but I know how to work my shit better than he probably thinks.

I sway my hips as I turn around and circle his desk, feeling his gaze burning a hole through my back. When I get in front of him, I make sure to bend over enough that he’d getjustthe right amount of cleavage action.

My lips are right next to his ear, but I can feel his face tip downward to catch sight of the goods I’m offering him. Better get a good look, buddy, because that’s the last you’ll see of them. His body is stiff, but one of his hands instinctively lifts to my hip and pulls me closer.

This was too easy.

I nibble on his earlobe before whispering, “If you think you can control me, you better think again. See you tomorrow, boss man.”

Without another word, I push myself away from him and walk right out of his office with a satisfied smirk painted across my face. Employees follow me as I walk past, eyes widening at the audacity I had to barge in there like that, while others are already spreading gossip about why I was in there.

When I turn around, Ryan’s door is still wide open and he’s eyeing me appreciatively.

One - Ava.

Zero - Ryan.

I blow him a kiss just before the elevator doors shut, then head back to my work area to get caught up on everything I’ve been slacking on.

There are days when Millie and I will switch on our focus for the day. Today, she wanted the calls, which leaves me open to answering emails. Although we have an automated message that responds immediately back to customers letting them know it could take up to two days for a response, we try to respond within an hour.
