He nods, but something about his gaze tells me there’s more. I shut the passenger door and wave at him before hurrying across the sidewalk, then into the heated complex. As usual, it takes ten minutes before the elevator finally comes back to the lobby and I eye Ryan’s truck curiously before disappearing through the elevator doors.

By the time I get into my room and look out the window, his truck is nowhere in sight and I’m left wondering what he needs me for tomorrow. We kissed, big deal, it’s not as if I’m someone worth worrying about. Not by him anyway. He has models waiting in line for him that he can choose from, so why is he worried about me?

Chapter8

Ryan

Selena is sitting at my desk when I rush through my door the next morning, a permanent scowl etched on her face as she stares at the front page of the newspaper. She sits the paper down with a huff before looking up at me and shaking her head. Then she walks out without a word.

Before I can sit down myself, Ava barges into the room and slams the door shut behind her. She’s lucky I find myself attracted to her because not a lot of people are allowed to act like this with me. Especially employees who are only part of the customer service staff. The only reason I’m letting her dish her anger out on me now is because my gaze catches what’s on the front page of this morning's newspaper and I’m sure she’s less than thrilled.

“Are you fucking kidding me?” she screams, no doubt catching the attention of everyone outside the office right now. I have to hold back a chuckle at the image of Selena leaning back in her chair enough that she’ll hear the rest of this conversation.

I didn’t get the chance to show Ava the picture yesterday because when she came to my room, instead of focusing on that, she was spending five minutes seducing me. Damn if it didn’t work. The rest of my day yesterday was spent with nothing but the feel of her lips on my ear.

“Can I take a moment to sit down?” I ask with a bit of bite to my words, which was most definitely the wrong thing to do. If looks could kill, I’d be six feet in the ground right now.

“By all means, your majesty, take a moment to get comfortable!”

Her face is as red as a tomato right now, so I make the smart decision to sit my briefcase gently on my desk and slowly walk toward her. The way her body is shaking and she’s gripping the newspaper in her hand, I’m scared for myself right now, but I’d never let that fear show. My hand lands on her arm and she flinches away from me as if I burned her.

“Ava, I need you to calm down.”

She pinches the bridge of her nose and mutters, “He did not just tell me to calm down.”

I chuckle and she punches my arm. The pain isn’t bad, but damn does she pack a mean punch.

“Women 101, asshole. Younevertell a woman to calm down while she’s angry, that’s an easy way to get them to bite your head off.”

“Kinky,” I say with a wink.

She sighs, her shoulders’ posture less rigid as she lets the breath out. “What do we do about this?”

“What if we don’t do anything?”

“You are not saying what I think you’re saying. Are you insane?”

I point to the paper in her hand. “According to them, the only thing I’m crazy over is you.”

“No,” she snaps, then turns on her three-inch heels and struts to the closed door. Before turning the handle, she looks over her shoulder and levels me with a glare. “Fix it. Now.” Then, she’s out the door with my eyes glued firmly on her ass that bounces with each determined step she takes.

I rub a hand over my face, already sick of the stress today, and my dad walks in without bothering to knock. His smile is instant as he holds the newspaper up and points to the picture of me and Ava. In the picture she’s gripping the front of my shirt, pulling me toward her, and I’m fisting her hair to push her into me while our lips are glued to each other.

“Great article, did you read it?”

I only shake my head before finally sitting in my chair and leaning back, wishing this day would come to an end. My dad stretches his legs out from the seat across from my desk, eyeing me with curiosity, before glaring at me. “You already messed this up, didn’t you?”

“No?”

“I heard yelling a minute ago, get it under control.”

“Will do.”

He shakes his head at me before standing up. “I’m only trying to look out for you, Ryan.”

I sigh. “I know. I’ve barely been here and I’m already stressed for the day, not really in the mood right now.”

His nod is one of understanding and he takes that as his cue to leave, shutting the door softly behind him. I press the button for Selena, and after a few minutes, she walks into the room.
