I feel like I’m in the twilight zone, my head spinning with what just happened. I run a hand down my face.Should’ve come fucking clean when I had the chance.

“Spit it out,” Angelo mutters, running a hand through his hair, directing his icy glare over to Sloane.

I have to hand it to her, she currently has the floor. I’m almost waiting for the drum roll.

“I traced the messages from the photos Enzo gave me to a Miss Georgie Daniels.” She glances at Marco. “I believe she’s your second assistant.”

Shocked silence rings through the room, then finally Marco frowns and shakes his head.

“Georgie? That’s impossible.”

Sloane shakes her head in response. “I’m afraid I’m not mistaken. It was a burner phone, but I paired it to her cell phone over satellite, which intercepted the signal. A rookie mistake, could’ve picked up the Wi-Fi in the casino or used hotspot.”

Angelo glances at Marco. “Where is she now?”

He thumbs behind him somewhere. “Back at the office with Helena.”

“Call Jonas,” Angelo barks to nobody in particular. “Get him to make sure that she stays put.”

Then he glances at Rocco, Rocco nods subtly, still stroking Charlie’s head.

“W-what are you going to do,” Valentina stammers.

I’m sure she doesn’t want to imagine Georgie floating in a suitcase down the Charles… or worse, never to be seen again. I mean, is she really capable of doing these things? Sending Valentina a fucking finger and making death threats and ransoms? Then again, nothing surprises me these days.

I pull Valentina to me, wrapping an arm around her protectively. Angelo glares at us, but doesn’t try to remove my arm. A stare-off ensues.

He has to calm down sooner or later, surely.

This is me claiming Valentina, and if he wants to try again, this time I’ll fight back.

I’m not entirely sure if Angelo is going to have me in a body bag next. The way he’s looking at me cuts deep, because it’s the betrayal he feels, and I wish that I had come clean sooner. I knew this wasn’t going to end well if he found out this way.

He doesn’t care if it was never my intention, what’s done is done. We can’t change it, and I’m not letting her go. I’ll never let go.

He glances at Valentina. “What do you think we should do with a treacherous little bitch that’s trying to extort us for money? Not to mention, threaten to harm you.”

“Money?” She scrunches her forehead in confusion.

Of course, she doesn’t know about that. At least he knows I haven’t exactly been pillow-talking with his sister about matters that aren’t meant for her ears.

“Never mind about that.” Marco tries his best to smooth things over, but Valentina isn’t letting it go.

She looks at Sloane. “And you said the photos were sent to Enzo?”

Fucking hell. She didn’t know about that either because she assumed they were sent direct to Angelo when I first mentioned it, and I didn’t correct her.

I feel her staring at me, and I want to face palm myself.

“Yes.” Sloane nods. “Then they were sent to Angelo this morning.”

I shoot Sloane a look and she stops speaking, but it’s a little too late, the damage is done.

“You knew?” Valentina is incredulous, and while I don’t blame her, I don’t regret keeping this from her. She couldn’t know the extent of it. We had to keep her safe.

“It was for your own good, Val. I didn’t want you freaking out until we knew more. It was bad enough after what happened at your office.”

The little she knew about it, the better.
