I’ve said my peace. He can do what he wants from here, but I won’t be going away quietly.

I will not spend my life pining for a woman I can’t have. I’ll leave if that’s what it takes.

Even if it would kill me to do so.

“For the record, you still hit like a fucking girl,” I tell him, unable to keep the humor out of my tone any longer as we pull up to the warehouse.

“Fuck you, Russo,” he snarks back. “You’re gonna pay for that when we get in the ring.”

Bianca comes racingin just after all the commotion disperses. She looks decidedly confused.

“What did I just miss?” she asks, looking from me and then to Sloane, who’s standing

there with Charlie after the boys just stormed past her without a second glance.

“Where do I even start,” I reply, slumping into one of the kitchen chairs. I run my hand

through my hair, which is hanging in loose curls, and rest my elbows on the table.

All of this is so messed up.

“Maybe at the beginning.” Bianca shrugs, walking over to the coffee maker and finishing

off what I started.

“That sure was intense,” Sloane says, pulling up a seat as her dog sits on her lap and

rests his chin on the table.

“You’re very smart,” I tell her, glancing up. “No wonder my brother wanted to hire you.”

“It certainly makes things awkward when you find out the intel is coming from

within,” she sighs, then adds, “It’s a whole new ball game for me. I usually work alone and prefer it that way.”

“You two seriously need to fill me in on what you’re talking about… and did they

find out who the finger belongs to yet?” Bianca visibly shudders as she recalls the delivery yesterday. I feel like I’ve aged since then and I can’t get the vision of finding it out of my head.

I glance at her wearily. “Not yet. But, it turns out that Enzo had a bunch of creepy photos of us sent to him. It appears to have been some extortion attempt to get money. That’s all the boys are saying at the moment.”

“Holy crap!” Her eyes bug wide.

“Then there’s the fact that, apparently, Marco’s assistant, Georgie, was behind it, which makes no sense. She seems the last of the super nerds.”Aside from Sloane, but I don’t say that out loud.

“There’s never a dull moment in this place, is there?” Bianca remarks, bringing the cup of coffee over to me and asking Sloane if she wants one.

“I’m good.” Sloane shakes her head.

Bianca goes back to make herself a cappuccino. “What are they going to do now?”

I close my eyes momentarily. I hope beyond hope that there has been some misunderstanding on this one, or that Sloane is wrong. I actually like Georgie and I’m struggling to believe she would be capable of doing something like this.

They will do whatever they have to do in order to get to the truth, including using any means necessary.
