Hope blooms in my chest that it could be true, not that I want them to bash each other to get to that point, but that we could ever have a normal relationship where we’re not sneaking around and pissing people off. I don’t know if that’s a far-off dream, or if it could ever be a reality. The fact is, Angelo can’t rule my life forever, as much as he may think he can.

She looks at Sloane again. “So… are you going to tell us if you even remotely like Rocco, just a little bit?” She grins her head off.

While I admit it would be good to see Rocco actually spend more than five minutes with a girl, I’ve never actually seen or heard him go on a date. Bianca just won’t let it go.

“Maybe you should date him.” I throw at Bianca, giving Sloane a reprieve, and an out if she wants one.

Bianca laughs like I’ve gone crazy. “Hey, the guy is a hottie, make no mistakes about that… but when it comes down to it, he is bit scary for my liking. No offense, Sloane.”

“None taken.” She holds her hands up. “And while we may not see eye to eye, I guess I can see some good sides to him, not just the fact that he likes my dog.”

We all laugh, I mean… they are cute together…

“He’d be good in the sack, I’ll bet,” Bianca sighs. “Some lucky girl, who’s not scared of him, will surely have the time of her life.”

“He could be a big teddy bear for all we know,” I say thoughtfully. Of course, I don’t divulge Enzo is a bit of an animal in bed. Bianca knows we’ve had some wild romps, but she certainly doesn’t know the extent of our sex life. Some things a girl has to keep to herself.

“It’s always the quiet ones,” Sloane says with a sigh.

We both look at her, and we all can’t help but laugh. She is certainly keeping things close to her chest if she does have any inclinations toward our beefy Rocco, and I don’t really blame her.

We sit thoughtfully for a while. Charlie looks like he’s nodded off after a hard morning around the casino.

We sober as Sloan says, “I really hope that Georgie didn’t do anything on purpose.”

At least one of us has our head back in the game.

“I hope so, too,” I reply, my tone fraught with uncertainty. “For her sake.”

“When will we know?” Bianca asks. “Do we have to wait for the nightly news?”

I shake my head. “You could sound at least a little bit sorry for Georgie,” I say. “She is innocent until proven guilty.”

Bianca rolls her eyes. “I’ve obviously been hanging around you too long then, because from where I’m standing, she looks as guilty as hell.”

“We don’t know that yet,” I retort, noting the way Sloane stays silent.

Bianca doesn’t miss a beat. “But Sloane does.”

She shakes her head. “I only know what I traced. There is a chance someone had her phone, or she’s been hacked. It does seem a little… coincidental that she works for your brother, though,” she says, giving Charlie a stroke on the head. “But it is important that they give her the benefit of the doubt, get all the facts first.”

Bianca snorts. “I’m not sure that’s how the Medici men work, quite frankly.”

“My brothers are reasonable men,” I interject. “So are Enzo and Rocco. If Georgie is innocent or has been put in the middle of something without realizing it, they’ll find out.”

“I just hope that she has good fucking cover story,” Bianca says, which is what we’re really all thinking. “Or a really good fucking lie.”

I sip my coffee and wonder what is taking place with Enzo and Angelo being left alone together in the car. I can’t help feeling just a little bit guilty about coming between them.

I never wanted that.

He’s his best friend for god’s sake, so surely he knows Enzo has the best intentions.

I don’t entirely get it.

At some point, he has to realize that I have my own life to live. Not him, my Ma, or anybody in this family or otherwise is going to tell me how to live it.

If I want Enzo, then screw anyone who tries to get in our way.
