“Tell me then, since you seem to fake really fucking well.”

My eyes dart to that dirty mouth of hers. “I shouldn’t be even touching you, Val, you know it as well as I do. If this gets back to Angelo, we’re both dead meat.”

“What about your hard-on?” she spurts. “Is that fake too?”

I’m momentarily lost for words as I balk. She’s a little minx, I shouldn’t be surprised. I always knew this about her.

“I’m still a man, Valentina, and you pressed your ass into me,” I remind her. Pathetic as it seems, it’s the only defense I have. And for some unexplainable reason, I suddenly can’t resist her ass.

“Well, you started playing this game.”

“You started playing long before me, kiddo.” My eyes flick over her head, and I see fuckface walking out the side entrance. I step toward Valentina as he turns his head to us, still some distance away, but he’ll see loud and clear what I’m about to do.

“Play along,” I mutter before she has time to say anything. I steer her back toward the wall, placing my hand on her hip. Dipping my head, I breathe into her shoulder, trailing my lips to kiss her just below the earlobe. “Toby incoming,” I whisper against her soft skin as I plant kiss after kiss on her neck.

She makes this noise in response that goes straight to cock.

I pin her with my hips. I know it’s all fucking wrong, but it’s just for the Toby show.

So I keep telling myself, but I’m beginning to wonder how viable that excuse is anymore.

We’ve only been here five minutes, and I’m behaving like a complete neanderthal with my best friend’s baby sister. I can’t even blame alcohol, not that being inebriated would be any form of excuse either.

I glance up a few moments later, and I see he’s made a swift exit to fuck-off land.

Stepping back, I run my hands through my hair.

“That seemed very believable,” she says, smoothing out her outfit.

I watch her hands slide down her body. She’s making me freaking crazy, so much so that I think we need to get back into the party and mingle. Let her do her “networking” or whatever else it is she came here to do.

I shouldn’t be out here pushing my body into hers, purposely letting her feel me.

I grab her by the hand and pull her off the wall, heading back toward the music. “Let’s go back inside.”

The buffet is open, and I steer her in that direction. I think it’s time she ate, considering how many drinks she’s already downed.

“You know, you smell great, Enzo. Has anyone ever told you that?” she muses as we wait in line for the finger food.

“Plenty of times.”

“Of course. And you really have Sarah fooled, she thinks you’re modest!” She slaps a hand over her mouth, laughing.

I give her a well-deserved eye roll.

“Maybe I was a bit harsh before. Toby’s face was priceless. I wish I could relive the moment, except in slow motion this time.”

“He should know what he missed out on, I’ve no objection to that,” I tell her.

“I think we need to get on the dancefloor,” she says out of nowhere.

I laugh as we move up toward the canapes. “I don’t think so, V. I’m way too sober for that. I was being ironic when I said that earlier.”

“Tell that to Sarah.”

“Touché, but I’m sure she will understand.”

Unfortunately, Sarah does not understand anything at all about us not dancing, especially by the time we’ve eaten, and the band starts to get into full swing.
