“And what exactly is that?”

“You know good and well.”

“Clearly, I don’t.”

“We were just having some fun to get Toby off your back. I think we accomplished that goal, but I guess we’ll find out at the wedding.”

“It’s a double-edged sword with you, isn’t it?”

He glances at me. “In what way?”

“You were eye-fucking me from the bar.”

“Valentina, please don’t speak that way. It doesn’t suit you.”

I sigh loudly. “We’re not in front of my brothers now. Why should it matter?”

“Because it just does, okay.”

“I can see you’re having a moral dilemma. That’s perfectly understandable.” I try to reason, Lord knows why.

He laughs quietly. “There’s no dilemma, trust me.”

I don’t believe it for a second. He’s trying to make me believe the steamy embrace we just shared and the way he was looking at me was just for show. It’s bullshit. I don’t care what he says, in fact, by the time this weekend is over, he will have to admit it to me.

“I don’t believe you.”

He sighs heavily, and I glance at him. He’s so hard to read at times. I wish I knew what he was really thinking. “Don’t make this hard, Val.”

“So you admit you weren’t just acting, even a little bit.”

He shakes his head. “I’m not admitting anything.”

“Always so diplomatic,” I mutter. It’s a very annoying trait about him. I wonder what he is really like underneath, and more importantly, what lays underneath that suit.

I’m going to do my best to find out. I can’t help the way I’m feeling any more than he can. I don’t know why he can’t just say it; it’s not as though I’m going to sky write it from the rooftops.

“There’s a fine line between having a bit of fun, making some guy jealous, and actually going too far with the girl I’ve known my entire life. There’s no going back from that.”

“So you’re happy to flirt in public, but not alone with me?” I laugh, exasperated. “Because that makes perfect sense.”

He shakes his head. “Tonight we gave Toby something to seethe over. I very much doubt he will bother you again, but if he does, then I’ll be ready. And tomorrow, we can play the part of the loved-up couple, and you can flash some of those business cards around when the ceremony is over and everyone has had way too much to drink.”

I glance over again at his all too perfect face.

He’s too freaking beautiful; that’s his problem, the strong jawline, the sexy stubble. The tan, and the strong arms, I like that part the most… or maybe that hard cock I felt pressing against me. He can’t write that one off to justbeing a man. Surely, he has some control over it. If he didn’t feel anything sexy toward me, why was he sporting a hard-on every time I pushed into him.

I’m not desperate for his love or his attention, I just want it.

My feelings tonight have overwhelmed me, and I don’t really know what to do with them.

“Sarah and Dale seemed nice,” he says, after a long, hard silence.

“She’s a great girl, I’m happy for them,” I reply. “Not all my friends are what you think they are, Enzo.”

“Superficial Instababes?” He laughs this time, and I can’t help but smile.

“C’mon, it’s not that bad. In fact, I need to grab a selfie for my Insta post tonight, if you wouldn’t mind.”
