Her eyes take me in, then she pouts as she looks down. I refrain from grinning.

“That’s not what I mean… I kinda… I really need you to… uh…”

I wait. “You really need me to what?”

She clears her throat. “Uh, well, be my date?”

I frown. “Isn’t that what I am already?”

“No, you’re my fucking bodyguard.”

“Language, Valentina.”

Our eyes meet, and I see the plead in them, wait… is she suggesting…

“You want me to be something else?” I go on, narrowing my eyes.

“Yes. My boyfriend.”

I almost choke on my coffee. “What the hell for?”

She slumps back in her seat. “Because I can’t go dateless, E, that would look so desperate and, well, you’re a good looking guy, you dress nice… most of the time and you’re quite charming.”

I do a double take. “What do you mean most of the time?”

“That’s all you heard in that sentence?”

“The rest was flattery in order for you to manipulate me into doing something I shouldn’t even be considering.” She fiddles with her fingers. It’s clear she’s really in a bind over this, and I don’t know why.

“So that’s not a no?”

“Valentina, it’s one thing to be your minder for the evening, but quite another to pretend to be your significant other.”

“There’s a hand job in it for you.”

I spurt coffee out all over her desk, and her paperwork.

She laughs uncontrollably. “Oh my God, E, you should see your face.”

Wiping my chin, I reach for a napkin in the middle of the coffee tray.

“That’s not funny,” I say when she stops laughing.

“I didn’t say blow job. God, lighten up.”

I do not need the vision of this little princess down on her hands and knees, sucking me off at her desk. She’s my best friend’s little sister, for fuck’s sake.

I shouldn’t even be having these thoughts. It’s like all of sudden, because I have to spend a weekend alone with her, my mind is on a one-way track to hell.

“You really need to watch your mouth, Val.”

She rolls her eyes at me. “Now you sound like one of my brothers.”

“I sincerely hope they haven’t heard you talking like that.”

She laughs even more. “You have seriously been hanging out with the Medici boys for way too long.”

“I could’ve told you that, then again, I’ve learned a thing or two over the years.”
