“I’m fine.” I giggle, linking my hands through his. We go and give them our congratulations, dancing to a couple of beats.

Enzo is fucking hot on the dancefloor. We move together but don’t touch, and by the time I’m in need of a pee break, I’m convinced there is nothing that he isn’t good at.

“Be right back,” I say as I hand him over to Grace and he watches me over her shoulder. I swipe my bag from the table on the way so I can powder my nose and apply some more lipstick.

Once I’ve toddled in my heels to the ladies’ room, I get myself sorted out, checking my reflection in the mirror. Everything is still in place, including my cleavage in the low neckline.

I so wanted him to move his hand between my legs and I fantasize about him playing with me under the table. I wouldn’t be able to stand it. My skin flushes at such a thought.

I step out of the ladies’ room to go back to the party, when I feel someone’s presence before I actually hear them.

“Valentina.”

Whirling around, I see Toby standing there.

“Toby,” I say, surprised. “Are you okay?”

He walks toward me, and I realize then he’s a little worse for wear, not falling over drunk, but he’s clearly had a few too many.

“You look hot,” he blurts out. “When that boyfriend of yours isn’t plastered to your side.”

“Look, I have to get back.” I take another step toward the dancefloor, but he reaches out to grab me. “Toby, don’t do that.” My breath catches as I manage to step back away from him.

“I know you’re pissed off that I fucked off to Europe and left you here…”

“You forgot about the cheating part. With Lizzie, remember?”

I wait for his response. Lizzie was a good friend of mine, hence thewaspart. When I found out, I had it out with her and it’s the first time I’ve ever struck a woman before.

He at least has the good sense to look sheepish. “I was a lot younger then, Val, and… I’ve made mistakes…I’ve missed you.”

I note no apology for the Lizzie thing. “You actually make me sick. You and Lizzie deserve each other. She actually did me a favor.”

“She didn’t mean anything.” He stumbles slightly. “It’s in the past, can’t we move on?”

I frown as I think back,um, it wasn’t that long ago. “Toby, you’re living in dream world. I don’t care anymore. I have a boyfriend now, and we’re very happy. And you need to get the fuck away from me.”

“Who is that dick?” he seethes. “With his hands all over you.”

“Umm… again, he’s my boyfriend. Now, I have to get back to him.” God, the last thing I want is Enzo rounding the corner right now. A fight will erupt, and it won’t end well.

“Wait!” He grabs me again, and this time catches my wrist. “I just want to talk.”

“Toby, let go, you’re hurting me!”

“You think you can come in here, wearing that outfit just to tease me, and then give me the brush off? Come on, I just want to explain and… be friends. Like we used to be.”

“You’re drunk,” I tell him, my tone firm. He’s never spoken to me this way before, and I seriously doubt he has “just friends” on his mind.

“I’m notthatdrunk. You used to love it when we fucked in random places.” He keeps his grip on me and tries to steer me to the wall. “Come on, Val, lighten up.”

“No!” I screech, pulling my arm from his grip, scurrying backwards, ducking under his arm to get away. It’s then I hit a body, but it feels like a brick wall. I only know it’s not the wall because it’s warm, and I smell Enzo’s musky cologne.

I glance up to see Enzo’s piercing eyes looking down at me.

“What the fuck is going on here?” he barks.

“Enzo, it’s okay,” I say, trying to take the panic out of my voice. I’m actually shocked at Toby’s behavior. “He was just leaving.” My heart is racing so fast, I think it’s going to burst out of my chest.
