“I don’t care,” she whines. “I need it.” She reaches for my cock, and I brush her hand away. If she touches it, I’m done for.

“No. Go get your purse, excuse yourself, and we’ll get out of here.”

She kisses me again, gripping her hands into my hair. When we let go, I pull back this time and give myself some space.

“Go now,” I say. “Before I change my fucking mind. If anyone stops you, tell them to fuck off.”

She puts her hands on my hips. “You keep telling me not to swear, but now I’m allowed to yell it at people?”

I bite my lip, trying not to smile. She’s so cute, all disheveled and flushed. “This is an emergency, it’s different.”

She begins to straighten herself out. “Just so you know,” she says, looking up at me as I watch her, my palm twitching. “I’m going to jump you if you decide to change your mind by the time we get to the hotel.”

I cock a brow. “Is that so?”

She nods with vigor. “Yes.”

I reach out my hand, and as she takes it, I pull her to me and kiss her hard. When I pull back, I say, “Go get your purse, and don’t talk to anybody.”

“So bossy.”

I lead her in front of me and let go of her hand. As we leave, I spank her ass when she wiggles it at me. I’m so going to look forward to everything I’ve got planned for that, too.

Deep down, I know it’s all wrong. And I feared as soon as I stepped out of the safety of the hall closet that the spell would be broken. Only, it’s not.

I can’t deny what I want, not this time. My mind tries to warn me that this is a bad idea, that this could be very badly if Valentina tells Angelo or if he finds out. But all rational thought has gone out the window.

I make my way across the room and to the bar. I order a shot and down it, my eyes never leaving Valentina as she speeds through the marquee of tables. To my dismay, she gets stopped. I know it isn’t her fault; people want to talk to her, and she has a right to enjoy her night. But I want to enjoy her too. And time is running out.

I don’t drink, not like this, but the shot feeds my adrenaline to go through with this. I know not to push it, because when I drink to excess, I could turn into him…the monster.Or at least, I don’t want to find out if I do. I don’t allow myself to ever get like that for a reason.

Pain stabs at my chest, and I look away. A moment later, a woman sidles up to me at the bar as I look up.

“Hey, sweetie,” she says, slurring. She probably was pretty at the start of the night, but now, not so much.

I’ve never understood people who get plastered at an event like a wedding. Like Toby, for example, putting his paws on my girl and not taking no for an answer. This is why it is the devil’s poison. I shove the shot glass away, ashamed at myself for even thinking it could help.

Nothing can.

“I’m taken,” I reply, turning back to watch Valentina.

She mumbles something likeasshole, and I wait, not very patiently, for Valentina to finish her conversation. Fifteen minutes go by. I’d like to think I’m a fairly patient man, but when I want something and I’ve just had a taste of it, there is nothing that will stop me from finishing it.

And I want her, in every way.

Another five minutes pass as she hugs the girl and then turns toward the bar, then gets stopped again, and more hugs ensue.

My patience officially explodes.

I push off from the bar and stalk through the crowd over to her. Her eyes widen when she sees me.

“Speak of the devil!” says her friend, Grace, I think.

I pull Valentina to me, and she comes willingly.

I smile at her friend, then look at Valentina. “I was just telling Grace we’re about to leave,” she says.

“Nonsense!” Grace tries to pull her from me, but I hold her hand firmly. “We need to dance!”
