“Well, I’ll have you to help me, if that’s what you want?”

I smile. “I’d love that.”

“You know you don’t have to keep working at Bijou.”

I frown. “Why not? I like it there.”

“Would that have anything to do with the hot guys that work there?”

I roll my eyes. “There have to be some perks to the job.”

She smiles knowingly. “What about Dante?”

My eyes go wide. “What about him? He’s my boss.”

“Not technically.”

“What are you implying?”

“Nothing.”

“Rayne!”

She crosses her arms over her chest. “I don’t know what was going on last night in the street, but he looked a little more pissed off than someone just following Angelo’s orders.”

“He was doing his job, he told me that enough times.”

“Uh-huh.”

I put my hands on my hips. “What isuh huhsupposed to mean?”

“It means something was cooking other than him ‘doing his job’. He seemed…jealous.”

A thrill of excitement runs through me at that prospect. “He did?”

Rayne laughs and shakes her head. “You honestly didn’t notice that?”

“I guess he did go a little alpha.” I know ‘a little’ is way ahead of the curve, but I can’t exactly tell her why. At least not yet, not until I work out what’s going on with Dante and me.

Since that night in the kitchen, a huge part of me has been wondering if we could be more and when we will get together again. I can’t deny the way I feel around him; it’s electric.

Concentrating around him is increasingly problematic, especially considering the intimate moments we shared. But I can’t say that I’m sorry he came on this trip, even if I was a little frosty toward him.

“Maybe he likes you. Have you ever thought of that?”

I know we have chemistry that can’t be denied, and even though my sister and I are close, I can’t tell her what happened between us.

“Yes, as friends, I’m sure that’s all it is.”

“He’s a good guy,” she says thoughtfully. “He’s very attentive around you. It’s not the first time I’ve noticed.”

“Maybe he’s just being nice.”

Rayne laughs and shakes her head. “Uh-huh.”

“There’s that word again.”

“The Medici brothers are all brutes deep down,” she says. “Don’t be fooled by Dante’s cool exterior. I saw a different side to him last night. He’s Angelo’s brother, through and through.”
