He laughs. “I can’t remember how long it’s been since I had a bath. Years.”

“You’re insane, baths are life. They soothe all the aches and pains away, as well as relax you and calm your mind,” I say, closing my eyes. It’s increasingly hard to concentrate with him in the bath with me, staring me down.

We both know how this is going to end, don’t we?

“I hated today,” he says softly.

My eyes snap open to lock onto his. “I know, and you’re really sweet, Fynn. But I’m a tough cookie, I’m not made of glass. I’ll be okay.”

He shakes his head. “Still.”

I find his foot with mine, and rub the sole as he stares at me. Holy shit, his eyes are so intense. I could get lost in those deep, blue depths and never resurface.

That’s what Fynn does to me.

“It’s nice that you came, thank you.”

He gives me a look. “Of course I came. The minute Garrett rang…”

“He knows about us?”

“No, I don’t kiss and tell, though you should know that by now. I told him to call me if anything happened.”

“He’s good at his job.”

“He is.”

“He killed that guy.”

“Self-defense.”

“He probably could’ve saved him.”

“Why?” he states, like we’re discussing the weather. “He’s dead anyway. He tried to hurt you. You know how it works in our world.”

“I do.”

“And you keep coming back.”

I snort. “Do I really have a choice?”

He frowns. “What do you mean? Angelo would never force you…”

“I have loyalty, to Angelo, to the family… to you.”

He doesn’t seem happy about that. “So, what are you saying? That you’re doing this out of some kind of obligation?”

I blink once, then twice. “Uh, no, that came out wrong.”

“You don’t have to sleep with me because of… because of that night…”

I let out a slow breath. “If I was going to pity fuck you, Fynn, I would’ve done it a long time ago.”

“That’s reassuring.”

“You know, I forgot what a big baby you are,” I tell him, blowing some bubbles his way.

“Come here and say that.”
