“Anyway,” I interject. “I’m sure with the added protection of the Bratva, Katiya and the women will be safe regardless.”

Angelo looks at me sharply. “Fynn.”

“What?” I shrug, then look over my shoulder toward Sloane. “She knows everything anyway.”

Sloane pretends she can’t hear us and works quietly on Marco’s computer while Angelo throws daggers at me.

“It feels useless just sitting here,” Angelo grunts. “But the line of interrogation didn’t go as planned. Il Diavolo has ensured that nobody knows who he is for a reason. If nobody knows anything, we can’t get to him.”

“Or so he thinks,” Marco mutters.

“There will be consequences for those who betrayed and turned their backs on us,” Angelo goes on. “The list is growing. Heads will roll for this. If I had left Darko in charge, instead of a fucking foot soldier, none of this would have happened.”

“People will talk,” Enzo assures him. “Someone will know something. Be patient, Angelo.”

“That’s easy to say when we’ve just interrogated all of the associates and employees of the Whiskey Run,” I say. “Everyone on this side of the city will know where we’ve been.”

“All the better to make him sweat,” Enzo replies. “If he knows we’re close, he might get sloppy. This isn’t what he was expecting. He was hoping to continue this silent takeover until someone finally kills us all.”

“And he almost succeeded,” Dante reminds us.

“But the fact is, he didn’t.” I feel Angelo’s eyes on me as I address Dante.

“Fynn’s right,” Angelo says. “This is a time for us to remember who we are, which family we were born into. The Medicis were once royalty, and now we must act as such. When our ancestors were banished from Florence and forced to live in exile, it didn’t stop them from taking back what was rightfully theirs. And so will we. We own this city, and it’s time to start reminding everyone why we’re the most feared family in Boston.”

Dante meets my eye.

“What are you planning, brother?” Marco asks, shifting in his chair.

“An annihilation,” he says simply.

“Didn’t we already do that at the warehouse?” Enzo queries.

“No, that was Angelo warming up.” I chuckle.

Dante shakes his head. “Damn straight.”

“I think we need to go deeper,” Sloane says from across the room. “But I may need to break several penal codes in order to do it.”

“You don’t need my permission, Sloane,” Angelo says, his jaw ticking.

She looks across the room at him. “It’s the dark web.”

“So be it.”

I frown. “I always thought the dark web was solely for criminals, Sloane. Here you are, a good citizen of Massachusetts, breaking all the laws.”

“Technically, it is, and you can buy anything from guns, counterfeit money, drugs, and bombs, but it still serves a valuable purpose where communication is concerned, especially for those people in countries or environments that are hostile to things like free speech or education. But then there’s privacy protection, hard-to-find books, crypto currency courses, and my personal favorite, a guide to the steam tunnels under the Virginia Tech Campus.” She snorts a laugh.

We all stare at her.

“I’m guessing,” she adds.

I smirk. This is why Rocco can’t get enough.

“She’s good,” I say to Angelo. “Where did we find her again?”

“She was hired to hide Allegra,” Marco answers for him.
