“Wait!” I call, running after her.

Angelo follows too. “What did you need to find me for?” he asks, as we all hurry to Sloane’s office.

“What?”

“Before, you said you were looking for me, what for?”

She bolts through her office door, races across the threshold, and slams into her chair as she taps her keyboard repeatedly, trying to wake up her computer.

“Oh, it was something Mia said at lunch when we were talking about baby names, and I remember seeing the name on one of the companies. I had a hunch. Then the breach happened, and I had to deal with that.”

Angelo eyes her skeptically. “What was the hunch?”

“Just the name.” She waves her hand frantically. “The baby’s name that Dante said she couldn’t have.”

“Drop it, Angelo. Sloane needs to find Sage,” I say, ready to punch him in the face if he doesn’t shut up.

“I know Sloane’s hunches,” Angelo barks at me, then to her, he asks, “What the fuck was it?”

Sloane taps around, opening screens and putting passwords in.

“It was Cosimo,” she says. “I think it’s a nice name.”

“Cosimo?” Angelo and I say in unison.

I haven’t heard that name in a long time.

“Yeah, one of the companies was called King Cosimo, not like I could forget.”

I look at Angelo. “What the fuck? Why is that supposed to mean anything?”

Sloane’s desk phone rings, and we all jump.

She answers it. “Hello? Uh, yes… okay, hang on.” She clicks another screen open, then says, “Got it.”

She clicks away and security footage comes up of the elevator with Sage inside.

We all glance at the monitor.

“So, who was Cosimo?” Sloane goes on, as the elevator doors open on the screen.

I watch while holding my breath.

The camera angle changes, and I stare in shock as we get a full view of Sloane, and Il Diavolo.

Holy fuck.

At first, I think I’m seeing things.This can’t be right. He’s… he’s dead. He’s been dead for years…

I glance at Angelo. “I used to call him that when we were children, it was a joke, Cosimo de Medici ruled Florence as an uncrowned monarch. He was a spartan,” Angelo says, his face drained of all life and color. “He… he’salive?”

I shake my head as I grip Angelo’s shoulder. “Holy shit, brother.”

Sloane freezes the frame and turns to us. “Do you know this man?”

I open my mouth, then close it again.

I don’t understand anything.
