She face palms herself now. “Fynn, you’ve no idea what you’re saying.”

“I actually do, it’s all I’ve been thinking about.”

“For all of five minutes? I’ve been thinking about this for years…”

“And so have I… I’ve never wanted kids with anyone else,” I blurt out. She stares at me as I run my hands over my thighs. “I have always wanted it to be you.”

I don’t know if I’m being a little insulted by how shocked she looks. “You want to be my donor?”

I frown in confusion. “Donor? No, a father.”

“I just want us to both consider what this would mean. You can’t just declare you want to father my child and then be all cool about it. We have a history, and it’s complicated.”

“It isn’tthatcomplicated.”

“Fynn, if I even agree to this… we’d have to look into the correct paperwork and protocol. I’d have to get my lawyer to look over it.”

I frown. “Paperwork?”

“Yes. For the invitro.”

I stare at her.

She thinks I’m going to let our baby be conceived in a test tube? Maybe I’m not making myself clear…

“The invitro?”

“Fynn.”

“Sage.”

She shakes her head. “You’re not actually suggesting we…”

I’m a little confused by her reaction. How the fuck else was she expecting I get a baby inside her?

“The old-fashioned way?” I shrug, like it’s no big deal.

The waiter interrupts, serving our chowder and placing a basket of crusty bread in the center between us, then leaves.

“The old-fashioned way?” Her voice is a pitch higher than normal.

Not what I was expecting at all. Not that I thought she’d run to me with open arms or anything, but I thought she’d be a little more open to it.

“I don’t see how this doesn’t make sense to you,” I say in a softer tone. “When you really think about it, it’s a pretty good option.”

“Fynn, you’re suggesting thatwe have sex!”she whisper-shouts.

“Don’t sound so horrified, I’m better in bed now than I was back then.”

Her eyes widen.

I can’t help it when things like that just fly out of my mouth.

“Fynn, what’s really going on? Why do you suddenly want this?”

I lick my lips.Shit.She’s got me there. I can’t just blurt out that I love her, have always loved her, and always will… Can I? She’d run a mile.

“It’s pretty simple. I care about you. I’d make a good father. And more importantly, I don’t want another man's baby growing inside you.” I stare at her, letting her know I’m serious.
