“I take it you like my bathroom?” he laughs loudly.

Caught red handed, I spin around. “You could say I’m a little excited about those jets. Yes.”

“Maybe one day we could put them to good use, yeah?” He gives me a devilish smirk.

I gawk back at his bluntness, though I’m not at all turned off. It merely surprised me. That’s all. However, turned off, I most certainly am not. I rub my thighs together to ease the sudden discomfort between them.

I let the shock fade from my expression as my left brow rises, my lips closing and curving into a devious smile of my own. “Maybe, Detective.”

I close the door and leave it unlocked. I trust Jack to leave me to my shower…alone. There’s something about that man that just puts me at ease. I know he’d never do anything I wouldn’t want him to.

My mind immediately goes to all the things I want him to do to me. I turn on the shower, letting it warm up as I get underdressed. I push my pile of clothes to the side and step under the water, letting its warmth wash over me.

With every swipe of my hands as I wash my body, I wish they were Jack’s caressing my slick skin instead. Tilting my head back and closing my eyes, I let the thoughts of him and I together grow in my mind.

I imagine his soft lips on my neck, the stubble along his jawline against my skin, a trail of heat left by his kisses. A knock on the door interrupts my thoughts.

“Yeah?” I call out, a little more annoyed than I mean to.

“Adalyn is calling, and Irene and Charlie are here,” Jack’s voice booms through the closed door.

I have to fight an annoyed groan. “Be right out,” I reply.

I cut my shower fantasy short and get out in a huff. I quickly dry myself and dress in the clothes Irene brought over for me.

My hair is still wrapped in a towel when I walk into the living room. Jack greets me with a smile, and Irene grins as she eyes the exchange of looks between Jack and me.

Lecherous thoughts from my shower moments ago threaten to resurface. I push them down, knowing a blush might break out on my cheeks any second. Now isn’t the time, though later, I’mdefinitelyreturning to that moment. I catch myself pressing my thighs together and biting my lip.Get it together, woman!

Jack hands my phone to me as it rings again. It’s Addy.

“Hello?” I answer.

“Andrea,” it’s Andrew again.

“I’m here, too,” Addy chimes in.

Her chipper demeaner always brings a smile to my face. Even with everything we face, she continues to try to stay upbeat. I click the phone onto speaker so everyone can hear.

“Okay, we can all hear now. Can you both hear us?” I ask.

“Who is everyone?” Adalyn asks.

“My friends, Jack, Irene, and Charlie. It’s okay; I trust them. They’ve helped me and kept me safe so far,” I say.

There’s a whispered exchange between Adalyn and Andrew, but I can’t make out the words.

Andrew is the first to speak about the situation. “We have a plan to catch Christopher, but it could be a little dangerous. If you aren’t one hundred percent on board, we’ll find another way.”

“What’s the plan?” I ask.

I’m willing to do nearly anything at this point.

Andrew sighs before speaking. “I know it’ll be hard, but you’ll have to trust me. I’ll keep you safe, but—”

Adalyn interrupts him. “You can trust him. You’re skeptical, and for good reason, but I trust him now. You know I wouldn’t tell you to if I weren’t sure.”

“Thank you,” Andrew whispers to Adalyn.
