I miss you too, more than I can express. I’m not upset with you for leaving. I understand why you had to. I hate Christopher for what he did to you. I don’t know all the details, but after the hushed conversations I’ve overheard, I can imagine.

I agree that this is the smartest way for us to communicate right now. I haven’t given up on bringing Christopher down either. He’s an evil piece of shit, and he deserves to spend the rest of his life behind bars.

I’ve attached an audio file for you to listen to. They’re conversations between Andrew and Christopher. I think we may have been wrong about Andrew. He’s definitely involved, but after I listened to these recordings, I’m second guessing his motives.

I hid a recording device on a shelf in Andrew’s office. It’s motion activated. I kind of feel like a super spy, but it’s the only way I could think of to gather evidence.

We’re going to bring Christopher down, and you’ll be able to come back home. I’m glad you’re okay wherever you are, but you belong here in Sacramento. This is your home. Let me know what you think of the recordings.

Love Always,

-Addy

Taking a deep breath, I click the attachment.

“What did you do to her, Christopher? Where the fuck is my sister!?”Andrew is pissed!

“Less than she fucking deserved, I’ll tell you that,”Christopher replied flatly. He sounds so calm, it’s eerie.

“Where is she?”Andrew yells again, his voice laced with worry.

“She hit me in the head with a fucking lamp, Andrew. I was unconscious. How would I know where she went?”The calmness from moments ago is gone. Christopher is enraged now. He continues.“We have bigger problems than where you’re spoiled brat of a sister is. She’s seen what’s in my safe deposit box. I went there from the airport as soon as I landed from the Cayman Islands. Her name was on the ledger.”

Silence hung in the air. I thought the recording had ended, but it continues.

“Why were you at the bank?”Andrew’s tone suggests he already knew the answer.

“Because that’s where the money needed to be. You can’t just walk around with that kind of cash without it being noticed.”Christopher responded like he was talking to someone with below average intelligence.

“My sister is my only concern right now. I don’t care what happens to you. I don’t care what happens to me. If she blows the cover off us both, we fucking deserve it,”Andrew says sadly.

“Are you fucking insane? I’m not going down for anything. I’ll pin it all on you and your precious fucking family. No one will believe I’m involved,”Christopher says, full of himself as usual.“What I do know is that she ditched her phone at the local train station. Get on the phone with one of your dirty cops and find out where she went! NOW!” he yelled.

“No,”Andrew replied quickly.“I won’t help you. Make whatever threats you want. I’m out.”

“We’ll see about that.”Christopher’s words are barely audible. I hear footsteps followed by a slamming door.

The recording ends.

Sitting back against the chair, I blow out a heavy breath. My head spins from what I just heard. Andrew is worried about me, and he won’t help Christopher find me.

Relief rushes through me, and my eyes burn with unshed tears. My brother isn’t completely against me; he doesn’t want me dead. My body shakes as I cover my mouth with my hand, squeezing my eyes closed and letting the tears fall.

A helpless wail escapes from deep in my chest. The despair I’ve held in from believing my own brother hates me enough to want me dead comes flooding out. Sitting here holding myself, I let the tears and emotions flow like a river breaking through a dam.

Trying to regain control of myself, I slow my breathing. I wipe my eyes and sit up straight, needing to reply to my sister.

Adalyn,

I’m in complete shock from what I just heard. Could we be that wrong about Andrew? We still can’t trust him. DO NOT tell him we’re communicating.

Christopher must have moved the money from the Cayman account into his safe deposit box. We need to find out if it’s there. If it’s not, we have to find a way to prove he moved the money and then paid the hitman. That’s the only thing that makes sense.

Send me the pictures we took of those messages from the mystery number. I can save them and add them to the timeline. Also, send me the pictures you took, please.

I’m going to start mapping this out. We have to have a place to start.

Talk soon.
