Page 18 of Finding His Forever

“Want to drive?”

“Heck, yeah.”

“She’s all yours.”

I catch the fob he tosses, pleasantly surprised he seems to have no qualms about my driving ability.

“She?” I ask, glancing back at the car that looks as if it belongs to the hero of a spy movie.

His smile widens, and he lifts a shoulder as if to say,why not?

I stand and pull down the back door then spin to find Cooper behind me, close enough I breathe in the scent from his aftershave.

“Thanks for saying yes to seeing me again,” he murmurs.

“Would you have given up, eventually?”

A moment and then a simple, quiet, “No.”

Right then.

“Where are we going?” Cooper hasn’t exactly been forthcoming about the details of our time together today, only to say that he could work with the timeframe I gave him—midday between picking up from one sleepover and setting up for another.

“That’s up to you. I’ve got a couple of choices.”

Choices, hmm? I’m suspicious. “One of those wouldn’t happen to be hopping into bed, would it?”

He chuckles and rubs a hand on his smooth jaw. “I’m certainly not opposed to that, although I had a couple of other things in mind.”

“Like what?”

“Well, we could grab some lunch. I know this great little spot on Clark where they have the most amazing sushi—”

“Been doing your homework, hmm?” He’s definitely been talking to Penny.

He has the grace to look guilty. “I’m not above anything that will give me an advantage.”

“Okay, option one, sushi. What’s option two?”

“Where did we land on that whole hopping into bed suggestion?”

“Cooper!”

“Tabled for later. Sounds great.” He winks.

I put my hand on my hip.

“Can’t blame a guy. Plus,” he says, his gaze drifting down my body. “You look amazing.”

A shiver of pleasure trickles down my spine. “Thank you.”

He leans in, and I think he’s going to kiss me, but a truck rumbles by on the street and interrupts the moment.

“Right,” he says, clearing his throat. “So where were we?”

“Option two.”

He meets my eyes, as if watching for my reaction. “Gia’s family birthday party. A boisterous production, to be sure.”
