“That’s it,” I rasped. “Go slow. There’s no rush.”

She breathed out through pursed lips as she took another inch of me. Sweet heaven. “Miguel called me,” she said and rolled her hips, fully seated on top of me. “Oh god.”

I thumbed her clit, and she dropped her head back to her shoulders, exposing her throat. I wrapped my hand around it. “What did he have to say?”

It took her a moment until she righted herself, moving over me, slow and seductive, even in my hoodie that covered her up. Nothing could hide her heat from me. The way she clenched around me. Her heartbeat under my fingers.

“He said…” She licked her lips, letting out a tiny moan. “He said the building will be ready next week.”

“That why you’re out of sorts?” I rested the back of my head against my chair, letting her drive. Maybe straight off a cliff, but as long as she took me with her, I was okay with that.

She nodded, hips undulating back and forth. I kept my thumb pressed to her clit, drawing her closer and closer to orgasm. “Mmhmm. Oh god.” She squeezed her eyes shut, shaking her head back and forth. “Oh god. I feel so full, so…”

I squeezed my fingers on her throat, a tiny movement yet enough to bring her eyes back to mine. “You came back here, all worried that it would be our last time like this?” I gripped her thighs in my hands, standing up so I could drop her onto the edge of the desk. Like this, I was back in charge. She held on to my shoulders as I pulled out and thrust into her hard. “You want this to be our last time?”

She didn’t answer.

“Tell me, Taylor.” I drew all the way out again. “You want it to be the last time?”

“No,” she whined, and I shoved back into her. She was so wet and I was so hard, the sounds we made every time we came together were obscene.

“Then it won’t be our last time. You can have me whenever you want me.” I sucked on my favorite spot, right where her pulse fluttered beneath the thin skin of her throat. “You know I’m the only one who can satisfy you.”

“You’re so arrogant.” Her laugh broke into a whimper, and with a few more thrusts, we were both sighing our release.

“Now.” I clapped my hand on her thigh. “Get out of here and let me get back to work.”

She slid off the desk as I removed the condom and cleaned myself up with a tissue. She watched from the doorway, and after throwing the trash away, I raised my eyebrows in question.

“It’s Friday night, and you’re here working,” she said with the fakest smile I’d ever seen. “As the future partner of Novak & Novak, I’m already so proud of you.”

I plopped back down in my chair. “You’ll get that job over my dead body.”

“Could be arranged, Hargrove.” She pivoted on her heel, back to my bedroom. “Sleep with one eye open.”

CHAPTERTWENTY-FIVE

Taylor

I was living in this in-between space where nothing made sense and everything I thought I knew was wrong. Because I used to sneer and avoid Dean Hargrove. Now I smiled, and we managed to take breaks at the same time.

“You sure you packed up everything?” he asked around a bite of one of the festive green-and-white St. Patrick’s Day cookies Sandy had brought in.

“Mouth closed, Hargrove.”

“That’s not what you said last night, Novak.”

I zipped my attention to the break room door to make sure no one else was around as my cheeks heated, and he chuckled.

“No witty comeback?”

I merely sipped my coffee because, no, I had no witty comeback after I’d sat on his face last night, riding him through two mind-numbing orgasms.

He closed the distance between us, his hand on the counter next to my hip. A place I’d so often found myself over this last week and a half, trapped under his gaze, immobilized by the pull between us. Even though Dean had said nothing would change between us, thatI could have him whenever I wanted him, I couldn’t help but feel that my moving back home would be the end of what we had.

Just this morning, we’d packed up my car with all my bags, so at the end of the day, I’d drive to my apartment instead of to his house. It was silly to feel like we were breaking up when we weren’t even in a relationship, and yet that was what it felt like. We were severing the tie kept us together.

I didn’t want to go back tobefore, with the hatred and ire between us.
