I couldn’t say yes or no. All I could do was kneel there and feel his body start to jerk. His cock spasmed in my mouth, shooting his salty, hot cum on my tongue. He emptied himself in my mouth, and only after his cock had stopped squirting, he pulled himself out and let me swallow.

Gareth let my head go, taking a step back as he took his cock and stuffed it into his boxers. Within another moment, his pants were fixed and he once again looked like he was back to hating me.

Slowly, I got to my feet, feeling a little unsteady on them as I wiped at the corners of my mouth. My jaw was sore; it wasn’t used to being kept open for so long. I fixed my own clothes and threw him a glare, letting him know he hadn’t killed the spirit in me just yet.

“You’re an asshole,” I whispered, flicking him off and storming past him.

He didn’t stop me, which was good. I didn’t know what I’d do if he would’ve stopped me, how far things would’ve gotten.

It was only when I was safe in my room and the door locked that I let myself wonder: what the hell did I just do? Whatever this was, I had the feeling it wasn’t going to stop. It would only grow and grow until it bubbled over, and when it did, I had no idea how big the mess would be.

Gareth said he could get rid of me when he tired of me, and I believed him. He could kill me, have someone else kill me, or keep me locked up here and no one would ever know or care to look for me. If he’d hurt me, he’d hurt my mom too, and while I wouldn’t shed a tear for anything that happened to her, it did pang my heart to know she’d probably be happier if I was gone. She’d never liked me, anyway.

What was I going to do?

Chapter Ten – Brianna

“I hate calculus!” Angelina said, banging her head on the lunch table. “I spent two hours doing homework yesterday, and a full study hall, and I still think I didn’t do it right.” She buried her face in her hands after that, letting out a long groan.

Cherith’s blond head was turned down to her lap as she read something on her phone, like always, which meant it was Erin and Kaity who had to deal with Angelina’s whining.

And me, but my mind was somewhere else, as it had been pretty much all week. After that night in the pool house, I’d tiptoed around the house, avoiding being anywhere near Gareth, not so much in fear of what he’d do to me next, but more because I was scared of losing myself. It was easy to lose yourself when you weren’t quite all there to begin with.

Erin had been picking me up and dropping me off before and after school. She’d leaped at the chance to spot Gareth in his natural territory. Of course, I hadn’t told her what he’d done, what he’d forced me to do. I’d already decided I wouldn’t tell her.

Some things the world was better off not knowing.

“Hey, I told you last year you shouldn’t take calculus,” Kaity said, pushing her glasses up her nose. Her super curly brown hair was loose today, wild and untamed. “There’s a reason why there’s only one calculus class. No one takes it!”

Erin waved her hand through the air. “At least you can get college credit for it. You just gotta power through. Ask the teacher if you don’t understand. It’s Mr. Gregor, right?”

As they talked about how Mr. Gregor didn’t teach, that he let you discover calculus on your own, I was busy thinking about Gareth and whether or not his attitude toward me would change once my mom and his uncle got back. When we were no longer alone in the house together, would he still feel so bold?

Eh, probably.

Erin elbowed me, bringing me back to the present. “Earth to Brianna. You okay?”

“Yeah,” I said the word quickly. Too quickly. Even Cherith glanced up from her phone and gave me a weird look at that. “I’m just thinking about how it’s going to be once my mom and Alistair get back from their honeymoon.”

“When are they coming home?” Kaity asked.

“A little less than a week,” I said. Today was Friday. Hell, I was lucky their honeymoon wasn’t some super long cruise.

“That’s not too much longer. Hey, you survived this long with Gareth, you can last a few more days,” Angelina said, twirling her finger through her bright pink hair. “I think I want to dye my hair this weekend—” The table erupted into moans, causing her to say, “Touch up the pink, I mean. I might stick with this color for a while. Bri, how do you stop yours from fading so fast?”

“I use special shampoo and conditioner,” I rattled off. “And I take cold showers.” That earned me incredulous stares from each of the girls, none of them quite believing just what it was I’d said.

Erin’s brows practically touched the cafeteria ceiling. “You takecoldshowers?”

“Are you a psychopath just like Gareth?” Kaity deadpanned. “I bet he takes cold showers, too.” Erin glared at her after that, but she shrugged it off.

“No, no. It’s not as bad as you’re thinking,” I said. “Plus, hot and warm water really make the color fade faster. And I don’t take the entire shower cold—just while I’m doing my hair. After that, I pin my hair up and turn up the heat.”

“Hmm.” Angelina’s eyes were narrowed in my direction. “I don’t know if I believe you. Seems pretty weird.”

I laughed. “Try it. Your color will last longer.” I knew I wouldn’t be able to convince any of these girls that showering in cold water wasn’t weird. Showering in cold water was probably the worst kind of torture they could imagine, but it didn’t bother me. A lot of things didn’t bother me the way they should.

Take Gareth, for instance. What he did that night in the pool house wasn’t okay. I should’ve fought him harder, should’ve called my mom and the police. I should’ve done something, anything to prove to him that I wasn’t some toy he could play with whenever he wanted.
