Confused, I repeat her words, "Her wall?"

Gwen nods, "It was decorated with newspaper clippings, photos of political figures from all over Chicago, and all sorts of information. I thought she had seriously gone crazy when she applied to become a reporter at the News Daily, and I was worried, so I followed her. But nothing too drastic has happened since then, so it has been alright. But how she is acting now is exactly how she was acting then. I can't help but be worried. So, check it out for me, okay, bro? And she is about to come, so *quiet*."

She quickly completes her words, putting a finger to her lips, and gets to her meal as Jen enters with Cale in tow. The little guy still seems sleepy as Jen seats him on a stool near me.

But instead of a plate of pancakes, she serves him egg, ham, and broccoli. So, all three of us, including Gwen and Cale, are expected to stare at her. She looks back, confused, "What? Cale has already had dessert for breakfast two days in a row. No more this week."

Her tone doesn't give the poor little guy any room for an excuse, so I pat his back in comfort, "Hey. Eat up fast. We need to hit the pool, remember?"

Excited, Cale nods, "Oh, yeah."

I'm about to take a serving of pancakes when Jen sets up a plate of eggs, ham, and broccoli for me, "Here, I thought you would like a healthy meal."

I didn't know she would be so perceptive. Feeling grateful and a little happy, I meet her eyes straight, "Thanks, Jen."

Flustered, she sits on the other side of Cale as she turns to her meal.

Chapter Eleven - Jenna

AsCaleandRyanswim in the pool, I sit on the lounge chair, working on the case Charles captured at the Armani's charity event. Honestly, I don't know if it can be such a scandalous one. I can't believe they carried out such a secret charity behind the scenes that involved prostitution, illegal gambling, and drug abuse.

If revealed, this could definitely be the biggest scandal in high society. Although, now, the connection I made between the incident two years ago and the threatening messages is dull in comparison. Also, if revealed, it can implicate Ryan's firm indefinitely. I need to consider this before sharing these photos with Ryan.

Whether he is trustworthy or not, or he is Gwen's brother, I can't trust anyone in such a situation.

I'm still caught up in a few other photos that Charles forwarded me when I notice someone familiar in the pictures.

I lean close to getting a better look when Gwen interrupts, "What are you doing, Jen?"

Shocked, I slam my laptop on my fingers, cursing. "Shit. Gwen."

Gwen seems really shocked as well, "I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry."

Cale and Ryan get out of the pool, attracted by the commotion. Cale seems worried, "Mom, are you okay?"

I nod, "I'm okay, sweetie."

Ryan takes my hand gently in his wet one from Gwen, "Gwen, bring an icepack from the fridge and the first aid kit from the kitchen. It's in the cupboard above the sink."

Gwen hurries to the kitchen as Ryan checks and touches my hand, "Tell me if it hurts."

I nod.

When Gwen brings an icepack and the first aid kit, Ryan only applies the icepack, "Thank God it's nothing too serious. Just inflamed. We can also check it once at the clinic if you want."

I knew it wasn't too bad, but having Ryan in such close proximity took my breath away. I honestly don't want to let go of him.

I gently take my hand away from his, keeping the icepack on, when Ryan asks, "So now will you rest?"

I glance up, confused, "What do you mean?"

Ryan points at the laptop, "You have been on it all day. Don't you take a break?"

I feel irritated, ready to fight tooth and nail, when Cale pulls on my shirt, "Mom? Please come with me to play in the pool."

Glancing at Cale, I realize he has been waiting for me all day. I'd forgotten that I was supposed to take some time out to spend with Cale when threatening messages and Armani's case happened.

It won't hurt to play for a while, "Alright. Let's go swim then."
