“How could you not open it ... are you insane?”

“Because I already know what it looks like.” Waving a hand at the painting over the fireplace. The look alike painting of her staring down at them.

“The whole thing creeps me out,”

She shifted her gaze upwards to study the details of the ancient portrait. Ghost frowned.

“First you see the necklace, then the ring” Talia knew her voice sounded bored. But it wasn’t boredom. It was avoidance. She didn’t want him to be right.

“And then the earrings,”

“Earrings?” Looking over at Ghost, Talia scooted to the edge of the bed. Her eyes staring up at the painting. Sure enough, the black diamond around the neck matched the ring on her hand, but she had totally missed earrings. Small dainty pearl studs, woven within the fall of a gold teardrop. Two perfect black diamonds glittering at the bottom of each earring.

“I know I’ve seen them” tossing the ring box at her, Ghost turned to the dressing table. Rummaging through the various antique boxes.

Talia slowly lifted the lid of the velvet box, revealing the ring she had been expecting to see. The large square diamond glistening even in the dim light of her room. It had to be worth at least a million dollars ... if it wasn’t a replica.

“There” Ghost’s satisfied voice made her look up.

Holding up the long earrings Ghost held them out to her. “You can’t, not try them on. At least once”

“You try them on,”

“Dont think I won’t,” shaking the earrings at her. The brunette grinned. “Makes me almost wanna be a girly girl.”

“Fine” sliding the ring onto her finger, she made her way to the dresser. Taking the earrings from the werewolf’s hand, she sighed. The gold setting around the black diamonds was just as exquisite as the ring on her hand.

The complete set should be in some museum.

She winced as she turned to face the mirror, the sharp metal glinting in the light as she pushed it through her almost closed piercings. She hadn’t worn earring in years.

But even she had to admit the set was breath-taking.

Dressed only in a satin robe with jewels shining against her skin, Talia stared into the mirror. The hair at the back of her neck rising, her skin tingling as the gold flecks deep in her eyes flared.

Magic.

But it wasn’t coming from her. The drug was still working. But she could feel the call of power swelling softly around her.

“Ghost?” Her voice a whisper, her guard’s features stilling into a dull, empty expression. The soft power building thickening as all sounds, but her own muffled breathing dropped away. The air in the room seemed to be holding its breath as Talia stared at her reflection, the silence almost suffocating. Her gaze slowly shifted to Ghost’s. Her features were empty and emotionless. Her reflection in the mirror was fading even as Talia stared.

She watched as the room faded away behind her, swallowed up by a thick, grey mist. Till, the only thing remaining in the reflection was Talia.

Swallowing hard, unable to look away. As she lifted her hand, she felt a surge of electricity run through her body. Her fingers pressing against the smooth glass.

Peering into the glass, she caught sight of a figure that seemed to materialize out of thin air. Her hair was braided neatly, with tiny gold beads woven throughout the strands. The black diamond hung around her neck, catching the light and shimmering. Her fingers rising to press back against Talia’s.

Forgetting to breathe, she gasped at the sudden contact. As the woman looked up. She locked eyes with Talia, and they stared at each other in silence.

She was staring at herself.

She had been crying. Her eyes were rimmed red, her cheeks flushed.

“I do not know what your name will be,” the reflection spoke in a hushed whisper. “But you are in grave danger. “

“You must flee Draven.” Another figure appeared silently behind the first. Talia’s eyes widened, and she felt her breath catch in her chest. “He is your murderer,” the ghostly woman whispered.

“What the hell?”
