“This is one of those times your strength won’t help you.” His words were gentle, yet firm.

Blinking past the white dots filling his vision, Hyde sucked in a sharp breath. A stream of curses falling from his lips as his whole body shook against the effort.

“You can curse at me all you like, but it dosn’t change the facts,”

“I don’t have time for this,”

The doctor pulled the office chair close to the bed, picking up the syringe, he sat.

“You need to rest, let your body heal and in time...” the doctors’ words trailed off. His body slumping back into the seat.

Flat on his stomach, Hyde watched the syringe fall to the floor and roll under his bed.

“Doc?”

His whole body tensing as the door of his cabin opened.

The smell of sulphur filling his nostrils as the tap of high heels sounded across his floor boards. Calm paced even steps.

“Well, this is a sight to see,” derision filled the feminine voice, curling around each word. “You have to be one of the most pathetic things I’ve ever seen,”

“Fuck, I hate demons” the last thing he needed was some power hungry demon nosing around his pack while he was out of commission.

“Oh, my feelings are so hurt” Watching as the doctor’s chair was pulled backwards, its wheels loud across the floor.

He was not going to lie here flat on his stomach with a stranger in his house. Forcing his hands to move underneath him again. Hyde pushed him to rise. His arms shaking with the effort. His whole body trembling as his stitches pulled with the movement of torn muscles. A sweat breaking across his brow, he turned, pulling himself up to sit on the edge of the bed. Every movement, pure agony.

His head pounding, his vision blurry, he glared up at the dark-haired woman. Dressed in leather pants and corseted bra top, the demon smiled. Her red eyes meeting his. Her disdain was obvious as she shook her head.

“Who the hell are you and what the fuck are you doing here” there was no hiding the pain behind the effort of forcing each word out. He could feel his bandages at his back moistening with blood.

The Doc was going to be mad.

“What kind of demon, even a half born like you, allows some second-rate vampire wannabe king to do to this to them?”

“Oh, this is a social call? In that case, fuck off” Hyde had never had time for any demons that he had come across. All of them played on their own agenda.

Stepping forward, her eyes narrowing, she smiled slowly, dangerously.

“Oh, you don’t want that” her long black nails tilted his face up as she stared down at him. “I am here to help you. “

“And what will that cost me?” Nothing with demons was ever free.

“A small favour,” she almost purred the words.

Snorting, Hyde moved his head away from her touch.

“Not going to happen,”

Giving a soft throaty laugh, she moved to sit next to him on the bed. Her long legs stretching out as she swept the curtain of her black hair over her shoulder.

“You shouldn’t be so quick to dismiss me, Michael,”

His whole body stiffening at the name. No one had called him that in years. His mother’s smiling face flashing through his mind. His grandmother’s stern, reprimanding voice sneering down at him. Cane in hand.

He ground his teeth together, biting back a growl as his knuckles turned white from the pressure of his grip curled around the edge of the bed. The demoness may look like a walking sexpot. But all demons were deadly, and they all came with unique gifts. He was in no condition to go toe to toe.

“It’s going to take you weeks, if not months, to heal. So much can happen in that time,” smiling still. Her head tilted to the side as she studied him.
