The Fae warrior looked like I’d shot him. He grunted, jumped to his feet, and disappeared into the kitchen.

What the hell? What did he know? Or, more importantly, what had he done for the prince?

Daeary took a sip from his tankard, listening as dishes broke in the neighboring room. When I looked at him with wide eyes, he shrugged. “I thought you knew. Bleddyn is the Royal Enforcer.”

Chapter twenty-five

Istaredathim, shocked to the core. If Bleddyn was the royal enforcer, he’d played a horrible game with me. All the times he’d come to my rescue, he’d done it at the order of somebody at the royal court.

Once Amber and I had found a document that indicted HRH as a major player in the human trafficking conspiracy, the initials had loomed over me like a foreboding thunder cloud.

And now lightning had struck with Daeary’s revelation because “His Royal Highness” was either the prince or the king. My suspicions, those ugly thoughts I’d pushed away every time, they’d dug themselves into my brain. Little things said here and there came together into a bigger picture.

I couldn’t avoid the truth any longer. Bleddyn worked for the royal court. He was the royal enforcer. He also had the means and opportunity to travel to my realm. Was he the assassin who’d come after me and Amber?

My friend had told me her attacker was dead. But what if she was wrong? What if he was banging pots and pans in the kitchen, inveigling himself into my confidence until my guard was down, and he could finish the job?

I stood up so suddenly, I startled Daeary. “I can’t do this anymore. I’m sorry.”

Then I turned on my heels and ran upstairs as if pursued by demons. And maybe those demons had hunted me ever since I’d arrived in this realm without me even realizing it.

When I got to my room, I slammed the door shut. There was no lock, so I jammed a chair tightly against the handle. It wouldn’t protect me if Bleddyn was intent on breaking in. Sliding to the ground next to my bed, I stared at the door, waiting for it to splinter like in The Shining.

An overwhelming feeling of sadness rushed through me, followed by thoughts of, “How could he? How could he make me care for him when all he wanted was to get rid of me?”

Sitting there on the cold floor, I realized how much my plan to free Luke and Kenzy had depended on Bleddyn being there, cheering me on, backing me up.

When nothing happened other than my butt growing numb, I calmed down. Maybe I was a little overdramatic. If Bleddyn had wanted me dead, he could have done it many times during the last few days.

He could have left me for the trolls to eat in the mountains, or for the drunken guards to rape and strangle me. He hadn’t, but what if he’d followed orders?

Maybe the prince had waited to see if I was a threat to him. His father had welcomed me with open arms. What if Bleddyn’s orders had now changed?

My breathing grew choppy as I freaked out again. Eventually, though, my body and mind were exhausted. I struggled against sleep, forcing my eyes open until they were dry and gritty. At some stage, I lost the battle, sagging against the wall as I drifted off.

Much later, I felt myself lifted by strong arms and placed on the mattress. Pulled against a firm chest, I closed my eyes again, only to fling them wide open when a hand slipped between my legs. It didn’t move, but where it touched, my skin felt scorched, as if seared by fire fingers.

I tried to stay still, chasing my sleep, but it was no good. The longer the fingers rested against my folds, the more restless I became. Another hand slipped under my shirt, cupping my breast. The touch heated my nipple, and I bowed my back, pressing my chest into the teasing palm.

I tried to see who was playing my body so expertly. Both hands gripped harder, holding me in position effortlessly. “No, lamb. Do not turn around. Let me comfort you.”

His breath warmed my neck, and when he licked slowly against the tendon, I tilted my head to give him more space. He chuckled, the sound rumbling through his chest into my back. Every time he moved or groaned, my excitement ratcheted up a notch.

I was getting wet, and my legs trembled, trapped between his hard calves. A red haze had descended on my mind, making me shudder over and over again. What was he doing to me? I’d never reacted to anybody like that.

“Step inside, warrior. Together, we shall make her soar.” Daeary’s voice sounded dark and rough, as if he barely controlled himself. Who was he talking to? There was nobody else in the room.

The door opened, and a slice of light illuminated a naked Bleddyn. I couldn’t see his face or his front, but the rim lighting from behind accentuated his strong shoulders, his narrow waist, and when he turned sideways, his massive cock. It was erect, horizontal with its own weight.

BLEDDYN

Her cries had started as quiet moans. I had thought she suffered a nightmare. But soon, there was no doubt why she was raising her voice in that plaintive manner.

Her sighs carried down the stairs, luring me in with the siren softness. If she was pleasuring herself, she would not have been heard through the house. There was only one other who could make her sound like that.

I should have been irate that the demon feasted on her lusciousness. Instead, my manhood thickened, and my arousal made my chest tight. Taking two steps at a time, I soon stood outside Beth’s door. Her cries did not speak of pain, but I knew what an incubus did to his victims. I had seen with my own eyes the haggard husks of the Fae who succumbed to the demon’s lust.

Yet I could not make myself stop what was going on. The incubus’s spell descended on me, wrapping my mind in a fog so powerful, my hands shook and my balls tightened as I listened to every moan, every breathy keen.
