“Definitely someone with rank in the pack if the alpha’s forcing them to keep their mouths shut—family member perhaps,” Sebastian guessed.
“That’s what I thought. He has several brothers and cousins in the pack so watch them in the coming days to see if you can figure out who I need to kill,” Heath said surprising the two.
“That might be taking it a bit far, Heath,” Sebastian warned.
“The man isn’t getting away with trying to force himself on her and neither is their scummy alpha. Which brings me to my next requests. First, I need the rest of the Alpha Squad out here in place the day before the summit is finished. I’m bringing Aubree home with me and I don’t want anyone getting in our way and her possibly getting hurt because of it. Second, I need you or someone to comb through every law there is and see if there is anything out there about an alpha having the authority to keep a pack member locked inside. I know an alpha can have someone detained, locked away, but only for just reasons. I’m talking about keeping someone inside, not allowed to participate in anything with the pack, no runs, few if any interactions, simply because they can.”
“Your girl isn’t allowed outside?” Simon said, his brows nearly reaching his hairline and Heath nodded, his eyes glittering with anger.
“That’s pure bullshit, no matter the reason,” Sebastian said, his face nearly as angry as Heath’s over it.
“Exactly, he claimed it was to keep her safe from others coming through but there’s got to be more to it than that. She hasn’t been able to be outside this place in threeyears,” he stressed and there was no other discussion needed. The two men moved out, knowing what they had to do, and Heath was relieved to know in five more days, he would have Aubree far away from all of this.
Five more days and she would be his, just his.
Chapter 5
Her hands shook as she pushed open the last door that she wanted to open but the summons wasn’t something she could ignore, no matter how much Aubree wanted to do just that. She wanted to go back up to Heath’s room and sit in it, waiting for the day’s objectives to be finished. She was so close to her wish coming true that the last thing she wanted was to be near her alpha again.
He hadn’t even seen her two days ago and yet his note that he was counting down the hours had been enough to nearly break her. Now he wanted to see her, making her dread every step she took.
Her birthday was the day after tomorrow, the end of the summit the following day. Heath promised her every night since then that he was going to keep her safe, take her home with him when the summit finished. It soothed her to hear it every time, but her tongue was still tied when she tried to explain the rest of the situation because of Alpha Josh’s orders.
She was too scared to possibly hear that his answer to her deepest question would be no to ask it. To know if he was merely taking her with him or if he wanted to make her his. Every time he touched her, kissed her on the forehead she wished the answer would be yes, but when he walked her to his door, ushering her out, she was terrified it would be no, keeping her quiet.
She couldn’t stop herself from dreaming about him claiming her, taking her from here, protecting her, taking care of her. She especially couldn’t stop herself from dreaming about his body taking hers. From feeling his hard chest against hers, his body caging her in the way he did that night at the dinner table.
When he touched her, a tingle ran through her whole body. Making her want things she’d never wanted. Making her crave things she never expected. Making her touch herself in ways she never imagined she might.
She couldn’t bring herself a release, but she’d gotten close. Closer every night when she closed her eyes, seeing Heath’s handsome face in her mind, imagining it was his calloused hands touching her rather than her own. She always lost it right before she went over, but she honestly didn’t mind. Knew she’d rather it happen the first time by his hands, or mouth, or…she pulled her mind back quickly, not about to walk into Alpha Josh’s office with any sort of excitement running through her body. The man would take it as an invitation, and she never wantedhimto touch her again.
“Ah, my beauty finally shows. You were difficult to track down,” Alpha Josh said as he came through the main door that led out to the rest of the packhouse and on to where the summit was taking place. Where Heath was having lunch with the others.
“Staying out of the way as requested, alpha,” she managed to get out as her stomach began to rebel from his scent alone. She couldn’t place it unlike Heath’s, a musky juniper and rye. Her father used to smell like rye. He worked in their factory that milled it into flour, and it calmed her to smell that scent once more.
“Finally learnt your place, just in time to become mine,” he said with a sickening smile that made her heart race in fear. He reached out for her, and she stepped backwards instantly, her face paling as his eyes darkened with rage.
“You said not until my birthday,” she said, the sound of his zipper lowering as he grabbed her by the arm tightly, shoving her into the wall making her want to scream but her throat was seizing up, keeping her voice quiet.
“I’m done waiting,” he snapped at her, his mouth moving closer to hers and she couldn’t control herself. She pushed her hands between them, keeping his kiss from landing on her face.
“Fucking little bitch, you’ve learnt nothing yet!” he raged at her, shoving her to the ground before his belt landed on her back making the scream finally fall.
“Stop it,” a voice said moving into the space quickly as she struggled to get up between each hit. The next smack didn’t fall, and Aubree caught a glimpse of Luke standing between them. “Use your fucking brain, Joshua. The majority of the damn council is out there, if they hear her screaming, find you beating her, you’ll be thrown off it instantly.”
She struggled up to her knees as Alpha Josh belted out an order to her, “Be here at first light on your birthday. I won’t wait another minute to teach you that you’re mine.”
Her body started to fall as terror washed through her, but Luke held Alpha Josh back and she pushed herself to her feet, hurrying from the room when Luke mouthed ‘run’ to her. He was the only one that had ever helped her when Alpha Josh came after her, but he wouldn’t ever help her more than this, which made her hate him too.
She hurried through the hallways, racing up to Heath’s room, and locked herself in it as the tears finally fell. She could barely breathe through them, and she tumbled onto the sofa, shaking as her hands encountered Heath’s sweater. His scent was all over the soft cashmere, and she wrapped it around her, curling up into it, until the worst of the pain subsided.
Her emotions drug her down into sleep and she stayed wrapped in Heath’s comforting scent until his voice pulled her awake.
“Little doe, what’s wrong?” he said softly, his hands lifting to her face, brushing over her crusty lashes caused by the tears. “What happened, Aubree?”
“I…” Fear and pain sliced through her as the words died on her lips. She wanted to say it so badly, but it would only hurt her worse.
“He did something to you, didn’t he?” Heath questioned, pulling her eyes up to his. The anger radiating from his soothed her, and she went without hesitation into the arms he held open for her.
