“Well sort of. We mostly just backed up Peyton. Asshole needed to be reminded about California law on taking and distributing video without consent.” Smitty shrugged. “He was being a dick.”

“He’s always a dick,” Gonzo muttered.

“Yeah, what the hell did Peyton see in him anyway? I mean seriously, look at her and then fucking Andy… Shit, he was swinging way outside his weight class on that one.”

“Fuck focus, you two, Jesus.” Ryan gave an exasperated sigh, desperate to get all the information his friends were being so stingy about relaying.

“What? We told you everything. Peyton didn’t know about the video, Andy didn’t care. We helped convince him otherwise.”

“I’m going to fucking kill him,” Ryan growled.

“We dealt with it, man. You guys broke up, not your problem anymore.” Gonzo waved his hand dismissively.

“Are you trying to piss me off?”

“What? I thought you didn’t want to wreck the team vibe and you needed to focus on your career and all that drama wasn’t good for your game.” Gonzo mocked.

“It’s different.”

“What’s different?” Pete stepped up to the group in the parking lot.

“Dipstick just learned that Peyton didn’t know Andy had taken the video.”

“Shit, seriously? He took a video of her doing that without her knowing?” Pete’s eyes widened. “What a fucking piece of shit. Who does that kind of thing?”

“I know, right? I knew I wasn’t friends with him for a reason,” Smitty replied.

“No shit,” Pete agreed.

Gonzo turned back to Ryan and pinned him with a look. “Ok, so back to Peyton. How is it different now that you know for sure she didn’t know about the video?”

“It just is,” Ryan grumbled.

“It just is?” Gonzo shook his head. “Are you seriously saying now that she didn’t know about the video you’d be with her, but not when you thought she did? You aren’t that guy, are you?”

“What guy?” Ryan stood taller and stepped toward his friend.

“That judgmental asshole. No woman of mine ranh ranh bullshit. Seriously, dude. Even if she knew about the video, it happened before you were together, so who the fuck cares? She didn’t know he was married. Once she found out she couldn’t be done with him fast enough, that’s all that should matter.”

“Yeah, easy for you to say. You try telling me that when you see a video of the woman you love sucking off some other guy.”

“The woman you love?” Pete asked.

His chest tightened like there was a vice wrapped around him. Christ, did he love Peyton? Maybe? Yeah. He rubbed his hand against his sternum. His throat closed, making it hard to breathe. Fuck.

“You okay, man?” Pete clapped him on the shoulder.

He rubbed his chest again and took a deep breath and let it out slowly. “Yeah, fine. Let’s get to practice.”

“Avoiding the question doesn’t change the answer, just so you know,” Pete told him.

Didn’t it? Maybe not, but that didn’t mean he had the first clue what to do about it.

Ryan walked into the change room surrounded by his best friends. Andy looked over at them as they walked in and smirked. Rage flowed through Ryan.

Pete placed his hand on his shoulder and mumbled. “Don’t. That’s what he wants. Don’t let him.”

“Morning boys,” Andy mocked.
