Ryan turned to the team manager. “Okay, cards on the table here. Simon cheated on his wife with Peyton. She didn’t know he was married. When she found out, I stepped in to help her save face at the team party and we hit it off. Andy was a non-issue. Honestly, when I hooked up with Peyton, I assumed she’d slept with Simon, so I had no reason to be jealous about anything.”

“Okay, so what’s the problem?” Cal leaned forward, resting his elbows on the desk.

“You want to tell him, or you want me to tell him?” Ryan turned to Andy and pinned him with a glare. The little fucker better own up to his shit.

“You’re blowing this whole thing out of proportion,” Andy mumbled.

“No asshole, I’m not,” Ryan replied. “The problem we are having is because he took a video of Peyton and him together without her knowledge and showed it to the team.”

“I deleted the fucking video,” Andy snapped.

“Yeah, after fucking Gonzo and Smitty made you because you wouldn’t do it when Peyton asked.”

Cal held up his hand. “Hold up, let me get this straight.” He turned to Andy. “You videotaped yourself in an intimate situation with a woman without her knowledge. Is that right?”

“Yeah,” Andy mumbled.

“Then not only were you dumb enough to do that, you decided to be the big man and show the team this video?”

“Yeah.”

“Holy fuck you’re stupid,” Cal muttered. “So not only did you open yourself and this team up to a sex scandal, but because you were jealous, you made it fucking public knowledge.” Cal rubbed his head. “Jesus,” he muttered and turned to Ryan. “Is she going to the police?”

“I don’t know, but she should.”

“She wo—wouldn’t,” Andy stammered.

“For your sake, you better hope she doesn’t. Fuck,” Cal roared. He grabbed the phone and pressed a number. “Yeah, I need legal in my office ASAP.”

“Legal,” Andy whispered.

Cal dropped the phone back on the receiver. “Get comfortable boys, because neither of you is going anywhere.”

Chapter Nineteen

Peyton glanced at her front stoop and sighed when she saw Ryan sitting on her step, playing on his phone. As she walked closer, he lifted his head. The bags under his eyes were visible from where she was. He looked like she felt.

She squared her shoulders. Well, good. She was glad he was suffering. He should be.

“Why are you here, Ryan?” she asked as she walked up the steps to her front door.

“Can we talk?”

“I’m pretty sure we said everything that needed to be said last week.” She opened the front door and stepped inside.

“Please.” His pained voice cut into her like a dull butter knife, ripping and gouging her insides as it broke the skin.

Crap, why was she so soft? “Fine.” She left the front door open and walked into the living room, waiting for him to follow.

She dropped into her favorite chair and pulled the fuzzy blanket off the back of the couch to wrap around herself for protection. Her fingers dug into the plush fabric, and she squeezed while she waited for Ryan to speak.

“I’m sorry, Peyton. I was an asshole.”

“Yeah, you were.” She pulled the blanket further up her lap as a shield.

“I didn’t handle things very well when I found about the video. The guys told me you showed up at the field and confronted Andy.”

“I’ll just bet they did.”
