“Chocolate milk,” Max said.

“Got it.” Ryan nodded, then turned his attention back to the game.

The little boy threw his head back and laughed when his string almost hit Gonzo in the face again.

After a few seconds, Ryan looked back at Jeff. “You going?”

“Yeah.” He stood up from the table, flicked a quick glance at Max, whose attention never wavered from the game. The kid wouldn’t even notice he was missing.

After quickly taking care of business, he hurried back to the table. Max watched him walking up and began giggling. What was that about? Gonzo nudged Max’s shoulder and his son fought to wipe the smile off his face. Jeff grinned as he watched Max bouncing in his chair. The kid was practically vibrating.

“What’s going on?” he asked as he walked up.

“Nothing?” Gonzo replied.

Jeff continued to watch Max as he sat down. The moment his butt hit the seat, a deafening fart sound erupted from beneath him. Every person around them turned to stare.

Max erupted into a fit of laughter, and his traitorous friends all followed suit. Gonzo reached out and slapped a high-five on Max’s hand. “Gross, Dad,” Max snickered.

He eyed the group of women at the table beside him. The eldest woman glared at him like he shouldn’t be let out in public.

At the look of pure joy on Max’s face, he smiled and shook his head. Reaching underneath him, he pulled out the whoopee cushion and held it out to Gonzo. “This is yours I assume.”

Gonzo blinked innocently. “I don’t know what you mean.”

“Right.” Jeff stared at his friend.

“That was so funny. You let out the loudest fart ever, Dad.”

“I didn’t fart.” He looked at the table of women and reiterated, “I didn’t fart.”

Max giggled. “Yeah, you did. That lady at the front door even heard you.”

Fantastic. He shook his head and glared at his friends, who all wore varying degrees of amusement on their faces.

“Wait till I tell Mom.” Max slapped his hand on his lap. “She’ll think it’s so gross.” The little boy erupted into another fit of laughter.

That was just what he needed. Max telling Kia his friends gave Max a whoopee cushion in the middle of a busy restaurant. She’d been hesitant to let him take Max out alone at all and now he’d be going home with stories about the loud fart his dad let rip in a restaurant. He glared at Gonzo, then turned to Max. “Maybe we don’t tell your mom?”

Max’s forehead wrinkled. “But that’s lying.”

“No, I’m not saying lie to your mom. I’m just…” Shit, this was just getting better and better.

“I gotta pee,” Max declared.

“But I just asked you if you had to go.”

“I didn’t have to go then.” Max bounced on the seat. “I gotta go,” he whined.

“You know what buddy, I gotta go too,” Ryan stated.

“I could pee,” Gonzo added.

Jeff pinned him with a glare. “No, you don’t.” He turned to Ryan. “You mind taking Max so I can talk to Gonz for a second?”

“Sure no problem.” Ryan stood up from the table. “Alright Maxie, let’s hit the head.”

Max’s nose wrinkled. “The head?”
