“You’re laughing so hard, your eyes have disappeared,” I giggled.

I heard them before I saw them. Getting baby strollers through doorways took skill. And it didn’t appear Ares had that skill in his wheelhouse.

I sprang up to go help him but was beat out by three other women who got there first. Cocking my head to the side, I watched with amusement as he grew increasingly impatient with the women who blocked his way as they cooed over Sia. I couldn’t blame them. She was a truly beautiful baby.

But when one woman brazenly wrapped her hand around his bicep, my patience ran out.

“Uh, oh,” Ava muttered. “Reign it in, she-beast.”

I gasped and touched my chest. “She-beast?”

Ava snorted. “You know you can get a bit green.”

I turned back to see Ares’ attention torn between the woman on his arm and the women reaching in to touch his baby.

“Never mind. I’m beginning to see red.”

I slid between the tables to reach them. “Excuse me, please.” I smiled pleasantly. Well, I tried to but based on their responses I may have failed.

Ares eyes lit up when I tipped my chin back for his kiss.

“Hello, hot stuff.”

His lips tightened momentarily before lifting in a smirk. Dropping his chin, he brushed his mouth across mine. “Hot stuff?”

I laughed, happy now that the hyenas backed off. “It’s the first thing I could think of. Do you like it?”

“No.”

“Hm,” I continued, nonplussed, taking control of the stroller. “Hello, Inky, my beautiful girl. I bought you a present! Have you been good for Daddy? Of course, you have.”

Her tiny face creased in a gummy smile. “Ah, you really are so sweet.” Glancing up at Ares, I found his eyes trained on my face. I held up the toy designed to attach to the stroller. “This is safe. I promise.”

“I trust you.”

Oh, my.

Those words did something to me.

Coming from a man like him, they meant everything. A mental glimpse of a future me strolling through the mall trailed by a tall blond beauty and an even taller black-haired beauty, both of whom called me mom, played out like a movie in my head. I shook away the romantic reverie.

“So, no Hitman.”

His dark eyes flashed a warning I felt between my thighs.

“And no hot stuff either. Whatever will I call you?” I teased.

“Ares. Just Ares.”

Steering the last few feet to our table, I slanted him a look. “We’ll see.”

Only when we got to the table did he turn to take in Ava. “Huh,” he grunted. “You’re beautiful.”

Ava blinked in surprise, her hands freezing on her thighs as she glanced at me uncertainly.

Ares eyes scanned her face, dropped momentarily to her figure before returning to her face. “Your skin is…” Seeming to shake himself, he shuttered his eyes and stepped back, his face suddenly impassive. “I apologize.”

“No, please,” Ava laughed, rolling her hand. “Continue!”
