Cesare interrupts my thoughts and I shake my head.

“No. If anything, it makes it even more important because if they are playing games and setting us up, I’m taking his daughter down with me.”

CHAPTER10

ABIGAIL

I’ve thought of nothing else since we left the restaurant. Something doesn’t feel right. It was too easy and knowing my parents, I never expected them to give me up without a fight. When I asked what Matteo had on my father, I believed it would make everything clear, but an investment, that’s just not enough. Daddy has invested in dubious companies before, and his lawyers eat any challenges for breakfast. Unless he’s murdered anyone, nothing can touch him, so whatever it is must concern me somehow.

My head aches with it all and I’m surprised when Matteo heads back without his usual shadow and sits beside me and then leans closer and whispers, “The answer to your question is Vegas.”

“Why there?”

“So we can get married.”

I stare at him in shock and note the dark intent in his eyes and I hiss, “I don’t understand.”

He trails his fingers against my neck, and I forget to breathe as he closes his hand around my throat and increases the pressure slightly.

“Because that is the best way to protect my investment.”

His hand moves and twists my face to his and my eyes water as the pain grips me hard. The anger in those eyes causes me to catch my breath as he allows me to step inside his black soul for the briefest second.

“You will do whatever the fuck I tell you, because your destiny is in my hands. If you want to make it back to your safe life and gold-lined future with the fool you left behind, you won’t question me. You will do whatever I say because it’s of no consequence to me whether you make it back at all.”

My eyes fill with tears as he leans closer and whispers against my lips, “So in your own interest, it may be advisable to tell me what you know, and I’ll be the judge of whether it’s important enough.”

I gasp as he tightens his grip and his low husky voice wafts through my entire body, like toxic black smoke.

“Last night was only the beginning, princess. Did you like it? Did you like my cock inside you, ripping away your innocence? Are you imagining how good it will be to be controlled and dominated by me? Allow me to make your decisions for you. Give you more pleasure than you believed possible and expect total obedience in return.”

He pulls me even closer and whispers, “You see, disobey me and you won’t like the punishment. The moment you stepped foot inside the Banned Room, your fate was sealed. I now own every part of you inside and out and you only get to leave when I fucking say so.”

He releases his hold, and my hands fly to my neck as I struggle to breathe, certain there must be a bruise forming already.

Then he says dismissively, “You have no choice. Marry me at 2 pm today and forget you ever had a mind of your own.”

He stands and walks away, leaving me fucking terrified.

I can’t believe the mess I’m in. Why did I ever want that man? He’s vile. Rough, crude and disgusting. Then why do I suddenly wish I had a change of underwear because that turned me on way more than I care to admit?

I turn my face to the window and take a few deep breaths because God have mercy on my soul. I just made a deal with the devil, and it’s scripted in my bloodied virginity.

I don’t seehim for the rest of the flight and as soon as we land, his friend, for want of a better word, stops by my seat and says firmly, “Come.”

I don’t even ask where his bastard boss is and just unfasten my seatbelt and follow him to the door. He stands back and points to the third black car waiting on the tarmac.

“Your ride awaits.”

I don’t even see Matteo, but I can feel him. It’s as if his eyes are burning into me and branding me as his. I’m almost positive he’s sitting behind one of the blackened windows, watching my humiliation as I try to walk with my head held high.

The door is open, and I slide inside the car, the door slamming behind me, leaving me alone.

My fingers shake as I reach inside my purse for my phone because as God is my witness, I need to get help, and fast.

It’s not there.
