“Matty, is he…?”
“Alive no thanks to your boyfriend’s father.”
“Carlos?” Her eyes widen and she shakes her head.
“It can’t have been him. He was here all the time.”
“Then where is he?” I say through gritted teeth, and she looks around her innocently.
“He was here a moment ago. Look, there’s his consigliere. He won’t be far.”
She points to a man leaning against the wall surveying the room and I say in a hoarse whisper, “Where did he take Chastity?”
“What are you talking about, Leo?” She tries to get away and I snarl, “Tell me or I’ll end your life myself.”
“Leo, please.” Her eyes are brimming with hurt tears, and she whispers, “She must be in the restroom. She won’t be far away.”
She says almost desperately, “Please, take me to Matty. I must find out if he’s ok.”
“He doesn’t want you anywhere near him.”
She’s prevented from answering when Dom appears with a mirror image of Diana close beside him.
“Flora!” Diana’s eyes light up and she pulls away and throws her arms around her sister. “I’m so happy to see you.”
Dom growls menacingly and wrenches her off and spits, “Don’t you ever fucking touch her again, you disgusting piece of shit.”
Diana stares around at us with wide eyes. “Boys, please. You’ve got me all wrong. I…” She shakes her head and says sadly, “I love you. I always have.”
She turns to her sister and says in a sad voice. “I love you too, Flora, more than you will ever know. Please, give me a chance to prove it.”
Flora looks at her with disgust and, moving closer to Dom’s side, hisses, “Fuck you, Diana. You are no sister of mine.”
Ryan appears and shakes his head. “She’s nowhere.”
I feel like howling with rage and then I watch Carlos Matasso enter the room holding his wife’s hand and Diana says somewhat with relief, “There they are. I’m sure Chastity isn’t far away. You’re being paranoid, Leo.”
I ignore the bitch and head straight for my enemy and hate the smirk on his face when he sees me coming.
“Leo and Dom. I haven’t seen the Ortega brothers together for many years. It’s a shame that one of you lies in the hospital. Have you any news? I do hope it’s not serious.”
I step forward and his soldiers move fast, positioning themselves between us as he laughs.
“There is no need for a public display of aggression. So many witnesses to back me up when I say you attacked me. Not to mention my good friend the chief of police, who I must say hi to.”
He moves away and I hear, “Connor, Mary, how lovely to see you tonight.”
As Carlos extricates himself from an extremely dangerous situation, he knows he is only buying himself some time.
I catch the expression in his wife’s eyes as she stares at me with interest before following her husband.
Dom hisses, “Just say the fucking word, brother.”
Flora holds onto his hand with a worried expression.
“I forget how much that man scares the shit out of me.”
Dom says roughly. “His days are numbered.”
