“Don Ortega’s personal assets and business interests have been bequeathed to…”

I swear the tension has sucked all the life from the room as he stares at every one of us and says in a shaky voice, “His son, Leonardo Ortega. In his words, my rightful heir.”

I swear the relief I experience is like nothing I ever imagined and Diana shouts, “What the fuck!”

We stare at her with interest as she stands and hisses, “Let me see that.”

She lunges for the paper and tears it from Ernest’s hands and studies it closely before saying angrily, “This is fake!”

She stares at me with blind panic in her eyes and yells, “You did this, you fucking piece of shit! Giovanni promised the Ortega Mafia to me.”

Now this is interesting because she obviously thought he was telling the truth when he lied his way into her bed.

“I demand an investigation!” She yells in a blind panic and if I am sorry for anyone right now, it’s her unfortunate attorney who is trying to calm her the fuck down.

“Please, ma’am…”

“Get out.” She hisses at him as he pales even further. “You’re a waste of fucking space, so get the hell out of here.”

He doesn’t hang around to argue and scrapes back his chair, nods reverently to Ernest Bagway and leaves as quickly as he can as Diana says angrily, “You won’t get away with this.” Her desperate gaze is directed to Giselle, and she says with loud desperation. “Tell them, Giselle. Giovanni promised me.”

We turn to Mrs. Matasso, who is staring at Diana in disgust before saying in an acid tone, “I don’t know what you are talking about.”

“What the fuck?” Diana stares at her as if she has two heads and falters a little. “But you said…”

Giselle cuts her off with an icy, “I would leave while you can, Diana. You are obviously not welcome here.”

Diana stares around the room as her life crashes and burns around her and she appears shocked and can’t figure out what to do next.

I nod to one of my guards standing by the door, who heads immediately to her side and grabs her arm.

“Don’t touch me!” She screams as he ignores her request and pulls her out roughly and I take a great deal of satisfaction knowing this isn’t the last she’s seen of me today. We have unfinished business regarding that whore, and her day is about to go from bad to worse if I get my way.

As soon as she leaves, the silence returns, watching with interest as Ernest stares around with a terrified expression on his face. He wants this over with and as he finishes off reading the small print, I doubt anyone in the room is listening to him. The relief is enormous and I’m grateful when Chastity’s hand finds mine under the table and squeezes it hard. I lace my fingers with hers and bask in this moment as I catch the attention of my brothers. We are all of the same mind. Our lives begin today, and I feel a pang when I remember the one person who have should have been here too. I’m quite emotional as my past catches up with me and I struggle to deal with it.

When Ernest voices the final word, I’m surprised when Giselle speaks up first. “Thank you, Mr. Bagway, if I may have a minute alone with the Ortegas.”

To be honest, he can’t leave quickly enough and mumbles, “I’ll be in my office tying up the legalities.”

He leaves us all waiting for the reserved woman to speak and, as the door closes behind him, I’m surprised when she smiles and claps her hands slowly. “Bravo. Carlos would have been enraged, and I almost wish the miserable bastard was here so I could relish the moment.”

I give nothing away and shrug. “Where is he?”

Giselle smiles with amusement. “Taking a shower.” She winks at Chastity who grips my hand tighter and then she turns to Dom and grins.

“Good job. I’m guessing it was you. It’s just a shame somebody got there first.”

She turns to Chastity and the gratitude in her eyes is obvious as she says calmly, “I hope you got what you wanted.”

“Thank you for the opportunity, Mrs. Matasso.”

Chastity’s voice holds none of the demons from her past and has a lightness to it that makes me turn and stare at her. Her eyes dance with happiness and her cheeks are flushed as she realizes her dream of avenging her parent’s murder.

I’m so confused and, turning to Giselle, say with interest.

“You intended for this to happen.”

Giselle grins, the spark in her eyes mesmerizing as she nods.
