“Show me.” He whispers as he caresses the nape of my neck, and it overwhelms me a little. Nobody is gentle with me. They don’t treat me like a fragile flower, or a piece of valuable china like this man is doing, and I’m unsure how to deal with it.

I pull away, regretting the distance it creates, and cough to remove the hitch in my voice.

“I think you’ll be pleased with the result.”

He crosses the room to stare at the document and lifts it against the light, the original beside it.

“Impressive.” He drawls, causing me to break out in a sweat because what the fuck is happening to me? I’m like a kid with a crush and I’m angry at myself, so I bite back. “It’s what you ordered. What you are paying me for, so what did you expect?”

“True.” He carries on studying the will and I wait for instruction, barely breathing.

Then he lays the pages flat and turns, his eyes flashing in the darkness, and says in a voice devoid of expression, “Then we shall move onto the next part of my plan.”

Now I’m interested and he points to the seat and says curtly, “Sit.”

Ordinarily, that would make my blood boil, but it’s as if he has cast a spell over me and I drop to the chair and fix him with a quizzical gaze.

“The second part of our agreement is of a more intimate nature.”

I say nothing but inside I am crashing and burning because what the hell, he is just like every man I have ever met and I’m really disappointed about that.

“Tomorrow, we leave for home. The Ortega mansion.”

“Go on.”

I fix my expression to one of disdain and he matches it, snarling, “Remember, this is a business transaction and nothing more.” He raises his eyes. “We head home as lovers.”

“Why?” I snap back, a burst of desire heating my blood at the mere possibility of that.

“To make my stepmother realize the game is over. Remove any hold she thinks she has over me and to send a message that she is no longer the woman in charge.”

“Your stepmother.” I’m disgusted because he is insinuating they have a deeper relationship than the usual one involved and, to my surprise, he laughs softly. “Diana is the same age as you. My father enjoyed them young, and Diana enjoyed fucking around.”

“You fucked your stepmother – gross.” I shake my head and he shrugs, apparently unconcerned about my opinion on that.

“Yes, I fucked her, several times in fact, and so did my brothers. Not that we knew, of course. She is a master manipulator and fooled the lot of us, and now I want the bitch out of our lives forever.”

“Do you want me to kill her?” I say, half hoping he does because what the hell, the woman must be a monster.

“If you like, it may solve a few problems.” Leo chuckles, which surprises me because I never thought he had the capacity for humor in him.

He fixes me with a dark look. “No, I want her to realize there is no place for her in our home and I need a strong woman to go up against her.”

“It will be my pleasure, the sick bitch.”

I really mean that and for a brief second Leo just stares at me, making me shift awkwardly on my seat because for some reason I like it.

Then he ruins the moment by snapping, “Do you want to fuck here or in your room?”

He raises his eyes as they flash with a challenge, and I know immediately he is calling my bluff.

It puts me on unfamiliar ground because of course I never intended on fucking him, but now the offer is on the table, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t tempted. Who wouldn’t be because this man gives Adonis a run for his money?

So, with all the strength and dignity I can muster, I drawl sarcastically, “No thanks. You had your chance, and you blew it. I’d rather a soak in the tub and watch a movie. No offense, but you’re not really my type.”

He laughs softly and grins.

“Then you may go. Breakfast is at seven. Don’t be late.”
