“Stand up,” I commanded gently.

Without needing to be told again, she stood, and her fur mantle fell back into place. It covered her red ass, but it didn’t cover up the fact that her panties and her jeans were still down around her ankles. Her obedience was utterly captivating.

With only a glance, I could see her swollen pink clit, just begging for attention. It took all the restraint in the realm for me not to throw her down on the dirt floor and fuck that pretty pussy raw.

By the way she’d responded when I’d pulled down her pants, I knew she was innocent. Further than that, though, she’d likely never had a man touch her, let alone lay eyes on her.

There was a ferocious sense of possessiveness that rose in me when I considered that I wanted to be the first, only, and last man that she spread her legs for. I gritted my teeth, angry at myself for letting my emotions get to me like this.

I couldn’t take her as a mate. I wasn’t willing to bear the loss of another woman like my Yasmina. This girl would grow old in my arms, and I wouldn’t be able to save her.

“You may cover yourself now,” I commanded quietly.

“Yes, sir,” she whispered. She pulled her panties up first, flinching quite deliciously when the fabric brushed against her freshly spanked bottom. She made a face when she pulled her jeans up, and I allowed myself to enjoy at least that.

Fuck.

She’d called mesir.

My cock had been hard as a rock since I’d shifted into my human form. Hearing her say that single word made me feel like it was going to snap in half.

Her scent still tortured me, but the pull towards her lessened a bit now that her nakedness was out of sight. Yet, I found myself focusing on her pretty pink mouth instead. I didn’t allow my thoughts to venture any further than that.

“Come. We must make haste,” I said. I hazarded a glance at her, noticing that her face had fallen for the briefest of seconds. Had I hurt her? I’d held back all of my strength when I’d punished her. I hadn’t wanted to make her cry, at least not yet. Mostly, I’d just wanted to calm her down and impress how important it was that she listen to my instructions in this foreign world.

I believed her story. Everything from her clothing to the way she spoke told me this wasn’t her home. Nothing about it was familiar. Now, all I wanted to do was comfort her.

“What’s your name?” she asked quietly. Her eyes were sparkling with tentative strength now, like she’d taken her shock and fear and locked it away, leaving only rising courage in its place. Truthfully, it was fascinating to witness firsthand.

“You can call me Nykor,” I answered gently.

She said my name and the sound of it rolling off her tongue did shameful things to me. There was no stopping the vision of her kneeling down and wrapping those pretty pink lips around my cock.

Fuck.

I needed to stop that nonsense. I’d turned away from love long ago, and I wasn’t going to allow myself to go back.

“We must go. It is not safe here, and it is a long journey to the castle,” I pressed.

“Your castle?” she asked, her mouth turning up in an adorable little smile.

If she wasn’t careful, her curiosity was going to get the best of her.

“No more questions. It’s time to leave,” I answered.

She opened her mouth, but I was already striding out of the castle. I reached down into my core, awakening my magic and shifting as quickly as I could.

I could feel her eyes on me, and I didn’t look back, not wanting to see her gaze swirling with questions because there was something inside me that kept making me want to answer each and every one of them.

I didn’t want to feel these things.

I’d seen how the king of Blazelheim looked at his mate. I’d seen how she’d looked at him. I couldn’t risk my heart on a human woman again. There were far more dangerous forces at play, ones I needed to contend with all on my own.

In order to get her to the southern castle in Glacierhold, I would lose at least two days of defending the northern reaches. The monsters would climb through the rift in droves without me there to stop them. It was already getting out of hand, but I couldn’t turn my back on her. There was no way she would survive on her own, and if anything happened to her, I would feel terrible.

Not only that, if the Dark King found out about her presence, there was no doubt in my mind that he’d come for her, and her innocence didn’t deserve to be tainted by the evil of that devil. He’d tried to come for Blazelheim’s queen, and with the uptick in activity through the rift in my own realm, it didn’t take much of a leap of faith to assume he’d come here next.

I needed more time. I didn’t need a mate.
