One woman in particular is incredibly chatty. And pompous! She’s quick to say that she’s been invited to a prescreening in the training room, which happens to be directly below us. The lights are dimming, and everyone is taking their seats.

Zeke’s voice hums in my ear. “Get out. I got a read on the women. Side door. Caleb’s calling it in five minutes.”

I rise to stand and make my way to the back of the room, intending to make my exit and meet my partners.

“We’re starting, sir,” one of the ushers says.

“Men’s room,” I command.

He opens the door and indicates the hall to the left. Unfortunately, I need to go in the other direction, but with the goon watching and not wanting to draw unwanted attention, I walk toward the bathroom.

I search the bathroom and am relieved to find it empty. I can wait it out, but with less than a minute or two left to make my exit, I opt to head back in and slip past the guard.

As I walk by the man, I pull out my phone.

“I’m sorry, sir. Phones are prohibited,” the guard says.

“This is business. Urgent business.”

“No exceptions.”

I feign disgust and reply, “Then perhaps I should take my business elsewhere.” I walk toward the front door. The man steps in my way.

“No one leaves until the production is over.” He stands with his legs parted and arms crossed to stop me from going any farther.

I check the space and see that the other men guarding the far doors are a fair distance away. It’s worth the risk, I decide. I pivot, making him think that I’m turning back, then ram my foot into his knee and watch him go down. Before he can make another move, I reach for the gun in his holster and pull him to his feet.

“Open the fucking door, or you die.” He looks around desperately. “Do it,” I dare him. “Your death will be certain, I can assure you of that.”

He stands and unlocks the door. As I rush out, I see Caleb bursting through the other end. Damian drives the car up to the front, gets out, and tosses me a Kevlar vest and my gun.

“Zeke’s down below. His team is moving the girls into the vans and taking them to the hospital to get checked out,” Damian shouts before he heads inside. I throw on the vest and follow.

It’sthe early hours of the morning before Damian and I make it to his place. Mason is crashing on the couch. He stayed the night on Damian’s insistence.

I enter the room, where Sabrina is fast asleep, curled into a ball in the middle of the bed. I pull off my clothes and slither under the sheets, curling myself up against her body, with her back to my front. She sighs, and her sleepy eyes drift open.

“You didn’t call,” she whispers.

“I texted. Sorry, baby,” I murmur.

“You get the bad guys?”

“Yeah.”

“Are you okay?” She searches my face.

“Yeah. It’s all good, buttercup,” I tell her, and kiss her soft lips. “Need to sleep, Bri.”

She brushes her nose against mine. “I love you.”

“Love you more.”
