They worked weekends, but always ensured they took a couple of days off during the week to spend quality time together. Wyatt had taught her how to cook a much broader range of food, and she in turn got him reading more. Sometimes she’d tease him by reading scenes out loud from her steamier romance books, and he’d show her how well he’d been paying attention by reenacting the scene with her.

“Want a drink, honey?”

The sound of Wyatt’s voice shook her out of her reverie and she looked up to see her husband holding out a bottle of soda. She took it with thanks, twisting the cap off. It was icy cold, thanks to the mini fridge downstairs in the cabin.

Downing half of it in one go, she put the cap back on and went over to where Wyatt stood, wrapping her arms around him and snuggling into his side. His lips brushed her forehead as he held her close. They watched in amusement as Freya dived into the lake, Rosie hot on her heels. Their dogs paddled in the water happily, enjoying the sun and the freedom to laze around in it.

Freedom. Peace. Love. Wyatt Kincaid had brought all of these things into Beth’s life and she’d be lost without him.

Fortunately, he wasn’t going anywhere. Silverbell Shore was home to them all, and Beth had grown to love living where she did, despite the heat of the summer and the cold of the winter. As much as she loved the warmer months, winter meant snuggling under blankets with the fireplace roaring and drinking hot cocoa.

Wyatt would cut down a tree every year at Christmastime for them to decorate, and Beth went out of her way to spoil him with gifts she thought he’d love. His family had come to stay with them for a couple of Christmases and Beth had loved being around a family once more. She missed her mom immensely, but it turned out Wyatt’s mom gave great hugs and his whole family had welcomed her into theirs with open arms.

“Have you decided where we’re heading in October?”

Beth brushed a kiss against her husband’s jaw. As much as they would have loved to do a road trip now, in the summer, business was too good to turn down, with tourists flocking to Silverbell Shore in droves, eager to spend their money. What they now earned over the April to August period was more than enough to sustain them for the rest of the year, so every October they took a couple of weeks off and went on a road trip with the dogs.

She loved traveling in October, seeing all the fall leaves and Halloween decorations. Wyatt left her to pick their itinerary because he was happy to go wherever she wanted.

“I have! I thought we might go to Denver.”

Wyatt pressed a kiss to her mouth. “Colorado is an excellent choice, Mrs. Kincaid. We’ll have to pack warmly though. It can get cold, especially at night.”

“I found some hotels that will take the dogs, and there’s plenty of great things we can do in Denver. I also found a ranch we can spend a night or two at.”

He raised an eyebrow. “A ranch, huh? Going to try and bag yourself a cowboy?”

“Hmmm, maybe! I’m sure there’s some hot ones about.” Beth couldn’t keep the serious look on her face, and she began to laugh. “Good thing I have an obsession with former SEALs instead.”

He palmed her ass and squeezed it. “Lucky me.” His tone was dry, but the corners of his mouth were turned up, and she smiled back in turn.

“I think I’m the lucky one.”

He kissed her then, deep and slow, until she felt dizzy. “We’re both lucky.”

She nodded, unable to speak. Instead, she rested her head on his chest and looked out over the lake, watching their dogs chase each other in the water.

After a couple of minutes, she felt warm enough to join them. “We should go for a swim.”

They stripped down to shorts for him and a bikini for her. Beth didn’t miss the glint in her husband’s eye as his gaze raked over her slowly, nor did she miss the faint bulge in his shorts. Clearly, he was a fan of her new yellow polka dot swimsuit.

Wyatt dove into the water cleanly, disappearing without a trace. Beth waited for a few anxious moments until he surfaced without warning. He still swam on a regular basis, even in the cooler months, because he loved the water and had been trained to do so. Old habits died hard, even though he’d been out of the Navy for a decade.

He held out his arms to her, and she jumped into the water, latching on to him immediately. She wasn’t the best swimmer on the planet but felt safe enough in the lake if she was near Wyatt or the dogs. He held her close, and they kissed for a little while, bobbing up and down as the dogs swam circles around them.

Eventually, he let her go and went for a swim across to the other side of the lake. Beth watched him, his broad shoulders slicing through the water in hard, clean strokes. It took him mere minutes to reach the shore, and he didn’t even bother to get out. Instead, he turned around and swam straight back into her embrace.

She held him close, showering his face with kisses. Even after five years of marriage, they still took every opportunity to be affectionate with each other. Still enjoyed making love on a regular basis. Still took time to enjoy the life they’d built together.

Wyatt reached up behind her nape and she felt the gentle tug of the strings holding her bikini top up. “Can I help you?”

His grin made her warm all over, despite the coolness of the water. “You have far too much clothing on.”

“I’m wearing a bikini.”

“And your point?”

Her top fell down, exposing her breasts under the water. Her nipples were already hard and aching for his mouth. His fingers stroked them, pinching them lightly and making her gasp. His lips were hot on her bare skin, kissing down her shoulder to her chest.
