“What do you mean?” The officer interjected. “Is there someone you’d like us to investigate.”

“No, officer, we’ll take it from here.” Luca said that calmly like he already had that on his mind, and it made me wonder why he didn’t want them involved. Maybe he felt they could relay the information to Stella, she being very well connected and all. But, how simple could this be?

Anyways, the officers shook his hand and waved at me and Ryan as they left. And, just then, Luca spoke up. “Ms. Grey, you need to be more careful. These things can’t just be taken for granted.”

“Okay, but did you think they couldn’t help?”

“I think you have to be sure of what side they’re on before you actually reel them in.”

“Yes, that is valid. But what if they weren’t on any side and now, we look shady to them?”

“And what if they had a side and were pawns we would have dragged into this mess.”

“That would make you culpable. You brought them here.”

“My bad,” he sounded defeated, but he didn’t look it. Rather, he was radiant. He walked towards his office and then, turned back. “Next time, I’ll take permission from you before I make any moves around here.” Heck!

“What was the meaning of that?” Ryan slapped my arm.

“What the hell?” I squealed. “Meaning of what?”

“That sexual tension, girl.”

“I don’t know what you’re referring to.”

“Heck, yeah, you do. You just kept going back and forth. Like, I couldn’t chip in anything.”

“We were arguing.”

“I know an argument when I see one, and that was not it. An argument doesn’t leave an onlooker horny and breathless.”

“Get out!” I laughed.

Ryan was a clown when he needed to be. But, maybe it was more than that. Maybe there was actually a steamy tension lingering between us. We had so much to do though. I had barely done the things in my job description, yet here we were in the middle of an actual chaos I had to be worried of, and instead of being on the same side with my boss, I was getting into steamy arguments with him.
