Gazing deep into her eyes, he replied, “I. Would. Love. Breakfast. With. You. Beautiful.”

“I’m going to need something to put on?”

He stepped out of the shower and grabbed two towels for them. He tugged on a pair of worn-in sweats and grabbed one of his T-shirts from the folded pile of laundry sitting on his teakwood dresser.

She tugged the T-shirt over her head, and it reached midthigh, emphasizing her long, shapely dancer’s legs. “Mmm, it smells like you.”

“You like that?” Nick’s mouth watered at how sexy she looked. He’d never view his T-shirt the same way again.

“Umm, you know I love the way you smell.” Her high cheekbones were flushed, her lips swollen and pink. “So, where’s the kitchen? I’m starving.”

“Me too. Come with me, gorgeous.” He caught her hand and led the way.

CHAPTER16

Excitement coursed through Sophie’s veins––they’d been so lucky to find each other. It was real. They loved each other. Totally unexpected but totally perfect. Her hand tingled where it was connected with his and it was all she could do not to skip down the spacious hallway.

Because they’d been wrapped up in each other last night, she hadn’t noticed the décor, so she checked out Nick’s house while they traversed the spacious hallway. The ceilings were high, and large windows dominated the rooms. Pearl-gray walls, deep teakwood accents, and beams on the living room ceiling led into the open kitchen. With sleek modern architecture, but with warmth and a sense of comfort––the house was incredible.

They headed to the gigantic stainless-steel refrigerator and Nick pulled out eggs, spinach, cheese, and bread along with a bottle of orange juice. Sophie began brewing a strong pot of coffee and hummedMadness, her favorite Muse song.

“Do you want to have a seat at the breakfast bar, or do you want to watch from afar while I whip us up something yummy?”

Nick leaned in for another kiss. “How about I watch from right here?”

Heat curled down her spine and she pressed one hand against his bare, solid chest. “You can watch from wherever you want but could you pour me a cup of coffee with a splash of milk? I’ll I get our omelet started?”

“Yeah, it wasn’t like you let me get much sleep last night?” He winked.

She laughed. “Umm, are you complaining?”

“Definitely not complaining.”

She admired the way his broad shoulders tapered down to a lean waist and perfect butt. When she accepted her coffee mug from him, it took all her willpower not to step in for another kiss. They needed sustenance.

While she whipped up a Greek omelet, they drank their coffee in companionable silence. The wheat toast popped out of the toaster just as she slid the omelet onto two plates.

“It’s perfect outside. Let’s take our breakfast to the patio, okay?” he said and picked up both plates.

She followed him out to an enormous patio, with panoramic views of the Pacific and all the lush greenery for which Laguna Beach was famous.

Sophie sighed in contentment and savored the sunshine warming her skin. Completely comfortable wearing his T-shirt, despite her hair likely looking as if a family of rats had taken up residence, happiness filled her.

All because of Nick. The four incredible lovemaking sessions and the orgasms she’d stopped counting didn’t hurt. Nick loved her. And she would savor every minute, for however long it lasted. Life was short, and she wouldn’t let her past and her hasty vow of celibacy prevent her from seeing where this went with him.

Now that they’d made love, she couldn’t imagine denying herself the pleasure he could give her. That they gave to each other.

“This is the best omelet I’ve ever tasted. I didn’t know you could cook too.”

Her lips twitched. “Well, don’t get too excited. This is one of about five things that I can make. I’m not much of a cook at all.”

“Does that mean I get to have four more meals with you wearing just my T-shirt?” He clasped her chin in one strong hand and nibbled on her lower lip.

Heat rose in her cheeks. How could a comment like that make her blush when she’d been screaming like a wild woman for half of the night? Maybe the light of morning made her feel a little more reserved and a bit embarrassed at her unbridled enthusiasm. But Nick seemed happy and carefree too, so she’d roll with it.

He framed her face in both hands and deepened the kiss. “Or we could head back into the shower?”

Her breath caught in her throat. “You are kidding, right? I’m not going to be able to walk tomorrow.”
