Interesting. Eric had learnt a lot from Caelan over the years, but one thing the Scotsman could never take credit for was Eric’s natural intuition. There was a shared history between the star-crossed lovers. Some terrible truth, or something. He’d known it even before that day.

He gave a brief nod, trying not to look pleased to have a way into this sham marriage and its eventual undoing.

“I’ll do what needs to be done.”

“He can’t do it, Eric or he’d have done it already. There’s something… I don’t know… some way in which he’s compromised that I don’t know about yet.”

“Leave it with me,” he said, trying not to laugh at her cloak-and-dagger, almost comical, manner.

“This is not for me, Eric. But for him. You understand?”

Perfect wife? Eric didn’t think so. This one had skeletons threatening to pop out here, there, everywhere. He smiled inside. “He will only find peace once I’ve got rid of this bitch?”

“I’m almost certain.”

He played along. “Then, if you keep him happy, I will keep you safe. That’s our bargain.”

“Thank you.”

He got up, moved to her side of the table and hugged her fiercely.

Thank you for giving me a way back in, he thought secretly.

“You know, Eric… if he was gay, it’d have definitely been you. You’re pretty awesome.”

He gave a smirk. Gay? He was actually straight. Let people believe it. Let them. He knew the truth. The real truth. The actual truth.

Again, he decided to play along…

“What would you say if I was bi?” he said.

She pinched her lip between her teeth, blushing as Eric stared at her mouth.

Did she not realise she was meant to be married to someone else? He was shocked by the way she brazenly assessed the size and potential of him, probably without even realising she was doing it.

“I’d say that’s very interesting indeed.”

He kissed her cheek and pushed her in the direction of the doorway, chuckling as she made her way back up to bed—to Caelan.

Back in his bunk with the rest of the guys in the stink-filled barracks-style chamber they had for their stay, he lay there wondering how he would do it.

Well, first he’d find out more about this stepmother of Flora’s.

Then he’d figure out how to use it to break apart Flora and Caelan.

It wasn’t at all that he was gay though he liked people to think so, and he couldn’t lie and say he’d never sucked cock, not when he had, just to find out if it was for him (it wasn’t).

He couldn’t tell anyone why Caelan. Why him. Why he felt this way about only one person on the planet.

There was something about Caelan that Eric had never been able to get over, and it wasn’t even necessarily physical. It was more than that. It was something else… something the submissive in Eric cried out for.

He’d only ever found the cruelty he desperately craved in his former mentor.

Nobody else came close, not when it came to true sadism.

Eric couldn’t help himself.

Caelan was the perfect alpha.
