“She’s much more than that.”

Eric blushed even more furiously. “She is.”

“I’m sorry for last night. It was a lot of pent-up stuff.”

Eric swiped his hand out. “Don’t mention it. It’s done with. You’re not gay, I’m not gay. I thought I loved you. I didn’t. We had a go. Got it out of our system. My system. But I do love her.”

Caelan nearly coughed. “WHAT?”

“I was never gay,” said Eric, who looked absolutely serious, “just… searching for something.”

“And you think that something is Flora?”

“I know it is,” he chuckled.

Caelan growled, “She’s mine.”

“Keep telling yourself that.”

Chapter Thirty

~ Flora ~

“He’s going to be tall and strong like his mother and father,” said Dad as he saw me approach the doorway while bouncing Logan on his knee. “Not ugly like his dadda, though. Pretty like his mamma.”

The babe was enamoured with the roly-poly man holding onto him. I could hardly believe he was here! But he was. I walked into the living room and shut the door.

“Dad, we need to talk.”

“I know, I know.”

I retook my seat. “No, you don’t know. I need help.”

He bared his teeth and was immediately on the offensive. “What’s that Scotch bastard done?”

I laughed. “Nothing. It’s not him. It’s the other one. His friend, Eric.”

Dad gave a wry smile. “Been sniffing around you, has he?”

Oh, he had no idea. “You could say that.”

Dad smirked. “What do you need? A beheading? Four quarters and dumped in the sea? A beheadinganda burning? Or just a plain old drive-by with a gunshot to the head?”

I laughed and covered my mouth. It wasn’t funny because I knew he’d do any of those things for me and not think twice. It was the way he’d said it. Sort of like he’d decided his lot in life had been to deal with the filth of society and his services list was pretty simple, really.

“He thinks he’s clever, but he’s not as clever as me.”

Blake Rathbone, one of the most notorious loan sharks to ever grace Great Britain, eyed me shrewdly. “Go on, love. Tell all.”

“Caelan had to go away to save the world, and while he was away, his friend was guarding me against Sherry’s goons.” My father placed a finger over his lips, sighing. “I’ve fallen in love with him as well. I love two men, Dad.”

He didn’t flinch, didn’t judge or look at me any differently. “And?”

“He acts weird around me. Like some romantic hero or something, and then when Caelan’s here, he’s another person entirely. I realised earlier while I was home alone, it feels like Eric… I don’t know…”

“Buttered you up?” he growled.

“Nice euphemism, Dad.”
