I think about others more.

Hell, I even breathe differently. Easier.

“Life is better with her in it,” I say, meaning every word. This isn’t all for show anymore.

“As it should be.” He takes a sip of his drink. “I start radiation in two weeks.”

“Good. You’ll let us know if you need help with anything?”

He nods as Adeline joins us.

She slips her arm around my waist and looks up at me. “I’m sorry to interrupt, but I think you need to take me home. I’m almost falling asleep.”

“Yes,” Bill agrees. “That sounds like a good idea. You’re exhausted.”

I gather the presents my family gave us as she says goodbye to Mom.

“I want you to get as much sleep as you can tomorrow, darling,” Mom says before hugging Adeline.

I watch as Adeline returns the hug. She’s building a close relationship with Mom. It gives me pause, because these two are emotional women. I fear it will hit them both hard when our divorce goes through. Adeline will be prepared for that; Mom won’t be.

“Jameson,” Mom says. “Do not eat Adeline’s chocolate that I gave her. You have your own.”

I eye Adeline with amusement before looking back at Mom. “I might like cookies and cake, but that’s nothing compared to Adeline’s chocolate addiction.”

Adeline smacks me playfully. “Hush. That’s our secret.”

I lift my chin at her. “Let’s get you home.”

She gives Mom one last kiss and thanks her for a wonderful Christmas dinner, pulls Hudson in for a goodbye hug, and says farewell to Bill. She then follows me down to my car.

“There’s something sexy about watching you drive a car,” she says from the passenger side when I slide in behind the wheel. “I’m glad you gave your staff some time off.”

I drive us out of the garage and into traffic. “It’s a shame you’re so exhausted.” It’s not often I drive, or that I have her alone in a car. I’d like to make the most of it.

She shifts in her seat, angling her body my way. “Does your mind have filthy thoughts running through it twenty-four-seven or just when you’re with me?”

I reach for her hand and bring it to my dick. “These days, they never stop.”

She removes my hand. “You’re right, it’s a shame I’m so exhausted. I can think of so many things I could do right now if I wasn’t so tired.”

“Fuck,” I curse, curving my hand around the back of her head and pulling it toward me as I stop the car at a red light.

She smacks my hand away. “I’m not sucking your dick in this weather.”

“We’re not out in the weather.”

“You’re driving in it. Honestly, Jameson, I know your mother would have taught you about safety.”

I look at her. “You know I’m good with risk.” I drop my eyes to her chest that she’s done a good job of covering today with a high-neck sweater. I’ve spent half the fucking night thinking about removing that sweater.

“Stop ogling me and watch where you’re driving. The light’s green again.”

I focus on getting us home safely. She’s right that this weather isn’t the best to be driving in.

We chat about dinner on the drive. Adeline gushes about the food Mom made. She goes into detail about each dish, telling me exactly what she loved about it. I’ve never discussed a meal in this way, and while I wouldn’t usually have the interest or patience to sit through a review like this, I don’t check out of this one. I’m almost certain she could spend more time going over it and I’d stick around for that.

She then tells me she loves the watch Mom gave her for Christmas and the gift certificate Hudson gave her for one of the most popular spas in New York.
