The next twodays are busy with back-to-back meetings. The ones I had to push last week to go to Vegas with Adeline. Late Thursday afternoon, I finish meeting with Ashton Scott and Beckett Pearce, my partners in a hotel and retail development that’s given us a great deal of hell since we began work on it. We’ve recently had some breakthroughs that I’m hopeful signal the end of all the headaches.

“Let’s meet again in three months,” I say as we finish going over everything.

Ashton stands. “I can’t leave Sydney in April, but I can meet there if you fly out.”

Beckett looks at his phone. “That works for me. I’ll bring Jenna. She’s told me how much she wants to visit Australia.”

I pull up my calendar. “I can make it work.” I can also turn it into the honeymoon Adeline and I never had. I make a note to mention it to her.

A message comes through from Shantel.

Shantel: Adeline is here. Do you have time to see her? She said she needs about fifteen minutes if you can spare it.

Jameson: Tell her I’ll be out in five minutes.

Shantel: Also, dinner is booked for eight. I’ve emailed everyone the details.

I glance up at Ashton and Beckett. “Our dinner reservation is for eight tonight. Shantel has emailed you both.”

We finish up and after they leave, I head into my office where Adeline is waiting.

“You know,” she says when her eyes land on me, “I could help you with this office.”

“Help me with what?”

She gestures at the room. “With adding some personal touches. Seriously, Jameson, you’re not even in this room.”

I frown. “You’re making no sense.”

“I’m making perfect sense.”

I arch my brows at her. “You’re going to have to enlighten me. And if we could get to the point fast, that would be good.” I’m double booked for some of my hours this afternoon. I don’t have time for the fifteen minutes she’s requested, let alone the extra time we’re taking for this.

“Oh, I see impatient Jameson is in the building today.”

I do my best to hold my impatience back. “Adeline.”

“Fine,” she mutters. “I’m just saying I’d like to see more touches of you in here. Maybe a photo of your mom. Or one of you and Hudson. Maybe a lamp that is one you actually like rather than this boring one you’ve got that I know you didn’t choose.”

I glance at the lamp.

She’s right; I didn’t choose it and I don’t like it.

I meet her gaze again. “You select a lamp and I’ll replace this one.”

“No. I’ll take you shopping, and you can select one for yourself.”

Jesus.

“We’re not going shopping.”

“We are. I’ve just decided. We’ll find a new lamp and photo frames.”

Choosing to ignore that, because this isn’t an argument I have time for today, or one she’s likely to give up on easily, I say, “Why are you here?”

“I wanted to run something by you.” When I give her a look that says I’m waiting to hear it, she carries on. “My London expansion is moving ahead faster than I anticipated, and my team has suggested I should consider spending more time there throughout this process.”

“That makes sense.”
